"Approved Food" - Has anyone used it?

Has anyone used this website to order food and drinks? What was the quality like?

For those who don't know, it's a site that sells cheap food/ drinks that are out of date.

I have. Quite a few times. Never had any issues with quality or delivery. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I haven't but I used to be in a facebook group where it was all the rage when it first started. I assumed that if you bought a branded item from there it was the same as buying the branded item with a longer date on ie the same quality. Is it different now, do they still sell brands?

ArnoldBee · 06/01/2022 12:44

If you only buy brands then it's worth it. I buy most of my food from Aldi with the odd branded item so not worth it for me.

It’s great, been using them for years.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/01/2022 13:00

I remember some TV show about it and one of the people who worked there was tasked with tasting a sample of everything they sold, to check it was OK.

For longer life packaged food, there's unlikely to be anything wrong with it. I don't shop there because you have to buy quite a lot to get free postage and I don't really want to buy the kind of things they sell in bulk, like crisps, biscuits etc, because that's likely to mean we'll just eat it faster, rather than save money, but I can see if you are disciplined and have teens, it can be a good idea.

But we do often eat out of date packaged food, simply because it goes out of date before we get round to using it, and it's rare that there's anything wrong with any of it, unless it is years out of date.

Yankee Bundles is great for cheap chocolate that is short dated. I see lots of posts for them on HUKD.

I've used approved food - some things aren't spectacular bargains but some are.
They are reliable and honest

Tyredofallthis1 · 06/01/2022 13:09

Used to use them all the time, but haven't for a bit. They had excellent customer service. The stuff they sold was always clearly and honestly described and I didn't have a problem.

I stopped buying so much from them because they had loads of stuff like perfume and significantly reduced luxury stuff and I just wanted cheap snacks.

I would suggest that there are three things you need to be really aware of. One is the sell by date of the items. Another is the cost of p&p. It doesn't save much if all the savings are in pennies and don't cover the postage. Third, it is also worth having a quick check on the supermarkets' websites to see if there are any local deals with the equivalent prices. For example, if you are okay with the own brand of the supermarket, you may be better off getting the chocolate bars there instead of branded stuff that is slightly cheaper from Approved Food but still more expensive than the supermarket own brand.

I have a very dull life, so this sort of shopping around is a hobby. I think XL Clearance, Click it (I think, used to be click marketplace) and Yankee Bundles have similar sorts of deals. You need to really do the numbers but there are worse hobbies and you can save a fortune.

Most of the time I didn't save much, but one order just before Christmas years ago had a saving of over £200 on the RRP.

Thanks all!

I've placed a small order. I'll update this thread with a review when it arrives.

I've put an order in. They emailed me to explain that there is a delay due to covid. I am happy with that can't wait to receive my first order 😊
