Hand hold please

I found a lump in my husband's abdomen the other day. He has booked to see the GP tomorrow. It's near his belly button, perhaps an inch away, above and to the right. It feels like a knot or something, like a harder bit of muscle.

For background, I lost my first DH to a brain tumour. I am literally beside myself thinking that it might happen again. I do have very bad anxiety around health. I cannot lose him too.

I'm not sure what I'm asking for - please no scary stories, perhaps a hand hold? Thank you lovely mumsnetters.

Hand hold here Smile could it be a simple hernia?

Thank you both. The not knowing is dreadful. I know it isn't likely to be anything terrible but I can't be sure. I am torturing myself with what could happen. And I am worried that I am making him worried too!

It really does sound like a hernia. Common in middle aged men. Xxx

JasmineGarden · 05/01/2022 16:59

🖐🏼It's all yours!

Is it his right or your right looking at him?

It is vastly more likely to be something like an ulcer than anything really serious. Could it be like mine, dense tissue after a keyhole surgery?

I can totally understand why you're so scared, but try not to get ahead of yourself xx

Another hand hold here. DH found a lump near his belly button that turned out to be a fatty lump. Was/is quite a firm lump which the gp felt needed further investigation. Totally benign and no treatment needed.

As already mentioned it could also be a hernia.

The waiting is a worrying time but he's doing the right thing by getting it looked at.

Elzbells · 05/01/2022 17:54

My husband has this now, exactly the same place. It's been there a year or so. He had a scan and it was just a fatty lump.

Handhold though as I know it's scary thinking it's more sinister and waiting for the tests

Hand hold from me too . Your husbands lump sounds identical to the one I myself found in my abdomen at the beginning of December even down to where his is and the way it feels . Had an ultrasound at my local hospital yesterday and they confirmed straight away that it was a hernia .
When I initially found it I did think twice about bothering my GP but I'm so glad I did , I had a telephone consultation but was then invited for a face to face appointment where she carried out a full examination . She was excellent and stressed to me how important it is for people to get these sorts of things checked out as soon as they are found , she then got my referral off really quickly . My advice would be to get on to his GP and start the ball rolling .
I totally understand your worries and concerns as I felt exactly the same and also have concerns around health since my sister sadly passed away in the summer of 2021 .

Thank you thats really kind

Sounds like a hernia. I've seen them in about three or four different family members. Very similar to what you describe. X
