Walk in wardrobe cost is it worth it

My flat is pretty big but lacking storage partner and I will be here atleast another two years. I’m thinking of knocking down the small bedroom cupboard and extending it out to create a walk in wardrobe. I have tradesmen family members but will still have to pay for the materials will it be worth doing anyone done similar and no how much it cost them. Was thinking IKEA wardrobe inserts would be open with no door so as you walk In the room you turn right into the wardrobe

I'm planning on the same idea but going to use Pax for the whole caboodle. This is my inspiration. It's all Pax.

So, you'll lose the whole second bedroom?

Plan it all out on the floor using boxes. My dressing room is quite large on paper but once you get the wardrobes in its amazing how the space shrinks right down.

Personally I think your flat is too small for it

purplemunkey · 05/01/2022 07:55

If I’m understanding correctly OPs flat is they 1 bed grey one.

It looks to me like you’d be taking a chunk out of the bedroom to make a slightly bigger cupboard rather than a walk-in wardrobe. Sorry OP, I don’t think it’s big enough.

Snowiscold · 05/01/2022 07:57

I don’t think there’s enough space. You’d waste space by creating a walkway in the dressing room area. Better to replace the cupboard with a proper wardrobe with doors all along so that you can access your stuff easily from the bedroom.

What are the actual dimensions op?

What are the actual measurements?

I've just turned our 4th bedroom into a walk in warrobe using IKEA pax, with everything including a make up table and chair, mirror etc it cost £1000. I'm really happy with it.

Snowiscold · 05/01/2022 08:05

But the OP only has one bedroom.

goldensilver · 05/01/2022 08:05

I agree. Doesn't look like there's enough room for walk in wardrobe. If that's just a cupboard then I'd suggest removing that and fitting floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes.

EurghCobwebs · 05/01/2022 08:09

In my old flat to create a walk-in wardrobe we just built a sacrificial wall with pocket door that opened into the wardrobe space.

Lots of people saying just build full height wardrobes here. As you are buying what looks like a new build I'm assuming the current wardrobes will already be full height wardrobes?

MushMonster · 05/01/2022 08:10

Can you get a floor to ceiling wardrobe there? I think with a walk in you will waste the space you need to walk across it, at least I am getting the dimensions wrong and you can fit shelves-walk space-shelves?
Also, a built in across the wall in front of your bed? If you need further storage.
We had a built it done this year, and though it is expensive, it gives you tonnes of space you do not actually expect.

Wardrobe26 · 05/01/2022 09:58

The dimensions are roughly 5.85 meters by 4.96 meters

I also have a superking bed in the middle of the room with bedside tables each side against the wall and a chest of draws with tv on the opposite side at the end of the bed

Going to get builder round to see what they can do

I think going from 2 bed to 1 would devalue the property wouldn’t it?

The OP has a 1-bed flat. The image shows property number 6 which has one bedroom. They've drawn the wardrobe on it.
Wardrobe26 · 05/01/2022 17:20

Yes it’s only a one bed sorry should have cropped the other flat out
