DS12 has been having far too much screen time past week - TV not close up though and phone with blue light filter.

Just as he stood up to get ready for bed he had a sudden really bad headache just come on out of the blue. Felt dizzy and a bit sick.

He had one paracetamol and then went to bed.

I have covid just now and so I have been staying away in my room mostly with windows open, wearing mask when come out. Adult DD has been cooking etc but she's asleep.

I'm reluctant to go in and check him as I have covid just now so don't really want to give him it if that's not what he has, but I'm anxious about DC at the best of times and really worried about how sudden and severe it was. Said he didn't like screen lights and didn't want to talk.

Will test him tomorrow, but just really worried what it could be.

Handhold please xx

Just go and check on him if you're worried, you don't have to hug him.

Why only one paracetemol just out of interest?

ThelmaDinkley · 05/01/2022 00:38

When my dd had Covid in the summer it started as really bad sudden headache and she was dizzy and sick. I’d go and check on him. Has he got a temp?

HotelCaliforniaOnRepeat · 05/01/2022 00:38

Check him. Your instinct won't let you rest until you do.

And why wait until tomorrow to hand him a test?

It'll take him less than a minute to swab himself and hand it back to you. You can do the rest.

slugsandsnailsandchippednails · 05/01/2022 01:05

@WorraLiberty He's quite small for his age so DD gave him 1 paracetamol. He drank water with it and wanted to go to sleep so I didn't want to make him wait 30 mins to do the test tonight as he hates it.

@ThelmaDinkley Yeah, when he had covid last winter I think it started with a very strange rash which faded away, then nearly 2 weeks later the exact same rash came back but worse and he got a headache, achy limbs, fatigue, and a temperature which wouldn't lift for 2 weeks after that. It was a v.strange presentation - originally they thought it was scarlet fever - and that's why I am wary to go in and check him whilst he's asleep in case i give him covid again.

I got him to call me before he went to sleep and the call is still connected.

It's just so worrying that it came on so suddenly when he got up. He had been on devices all day though, and has had this same thing before once or twice I think.

I'm just imagining worse case scenarios. I don't have anxiety around my own health but I do my DC.

If I didn't have covid just now I'd be checking him all the time.

My older DC's first covid symptom was a headache. As you have covid I'd probably take them for a PCR to check. Also, go and check on him to put your mind at rest. Better that than anything happening and you won't be able to rest until you do!

JustLikea · 05/01/2022 01:12

Put a mask on, wash your hands and go into his bedroom to check up on him for your own peace of mind.

I got him to call me before he went to sleep and the call is still connected……………..

Go check on him, ffs!!!!!!

It could also be a surge of hormones when DS was 13 he collapsed with an intense migraine. A colleague of mine said his migraines started at that age. Fortunately seven years on and he has never had another.

But yes check in on him, it could also be too much screen time.

StarryNightSky26 · 05/01/2022 01:42

My unqualified guesses would either be covid, screen induced stress headache or a migraine, which often start at this age due to hormones. Any of which are minor issues.

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry op, just keep an eye on him and see how he goes.

Atmywitsend29 · 05/01/2022 02:01

I'd check on him and wake him, check how he is feeling.

Just put a mask on and wash your hands as pp suggested.

ThelmaDinkley · 05/01/2022 07:55

How is he OP? Hope he’s feeling better.

BahBumbug · 05/01/2022 07:59

My DC started with migraines as they were reaching their teens. The first one scared the shit out of me as they were screaming in pain and I rushed them to hospital thinking meningitis. If it happens again, get your DC to the GP's who can prescribe a spray

sofakingcool · 05/01/2022 08:21

My DS's Covid started with a bad headache. He also started having migraines at the same age as your son, so like others have said it's a possibility

slugsandsnailsandchippednails · 05/01/2022 08:39

He says the headache is away this morning. I'm going to let him sleep in and then he is going to do a LFT before breakfast.

I've eventually managed to get PCRs ordered for the DC, but no idea when they'll arrive.

Thanks for the support. I'm a worrier and it's just that it came on so suddenly that concerned me.

He was on his screens most of the day as what can you do when we are in isolation..

He said that as soon as he stood up away from the screens to go to bed, the headache came on really suddenly and severe and he was dizzy. In one side behind eyebrow he said. He felt a bit nauseous as well. Looking at lights annoyed him, talking annoyed him and he had to go to bed.

Please keep checking on him.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 05/01/2022 08:48

The description of the headache sounds like a migraine. Probably caused by too much screen time. Easily done in school holidays but time to cut back on the time spent online.

BahBumbug · 05/01/2022 09:45

Yes it sounds like a migraine with the aversion to noise and light

titanic25 · 05/01/2022 10:34

I started suffering from sudden dizziness 7 years ago . they are called vertigo s. went through all the brain scans, ENT referrals etc but they couldn't find anything what's causing them.
Then someone told me to keep track of my food . So basically now i found i am allergic to Almonds they give me sudden headaches.
I have to eat cheese , fried chips , bananas , red wine , pizza etc in very minimal quantities.

I controlled my vertigo from four episodes a week to now very rare occurrence.

TheCreamCaker · 05/01/2022 10:53

this DS12 has been having far too much screen time past week

I'd think that's probably the cause. Also, the head being in one position for any length of time can cause headaches.

Hope he's ok.
