Anyone granted a DFG for home alterations

As the title, has anyone used the Disabled Facilities Grant to fund house alterations for a disabled family member. Would you be happy to tell me how much you were given, what alterations you made and how hard did you find it to get the funding?
We tried applying a few years ago but didn't get much help and am reluctant to go through all the stress again for such little results.

There are variations between England, Scotland and Wales so I would suggest looking online for the specific area or council you come under. Did you have an assessment by an occupational therapist to specify what the person's needs were? This usually forms the basis and they would put the application in on behalf of the person.
(This only applies to private sector housing, council/housing association is a difference process I believe)

We are in England and home owners, and were assessed by an occupational health person. They decided that our two early 20s kids who have very different sleeping needs and one was in a relationship, should share a bedroom upstairs despite one needing a downstairs room converted into a bedroom and needing a shower room downstairs. They wanted to put in a stairlift on our stairs which go around a corner with some stairs being wedged shaped, so would make it dangerous to walk up and down. They also wanted to remove our only bath and put in a walk in shower despite our yd needing to use a bath.

It might be worth asking the occupational therapist for a second opinion, or discussion about the difference between how you see the issues being solved and how they propose the needs being met.
They are possibly restricted in the grant only being able to meet the needs of the one person they were assessing, rather than looking at the whole family needs, or in needing to propose the most cost effective way rather than the more expensive ideal way.
It might be worth looking into whether there are any charitable sources of funding that might apply to your child

There are rules setting out what a DFG can pay for and the Council will usually award a grant based on the most cost-effective way of making those alterations.
But you can apply to do something different if it results in the same outcome and you can cover the difference in the cost.
