Need a non-physical present for my parents

By non-physical, I mean something like a subscription or similar. My parents are in their mid-70s and my very elderly granddad lives with them, so the gift can't be anything involving an overnight stay somewhere.

Budget up to £100. Thanks!

Meal out, theatre tickets?

FionnulaTheCooler · 04/01/2022 10:54

A posh afternoon tea somewhere?

fluffedup · 04/01/2022 10:57

I did this for my DF. He didn't want to clutter the house with any more 'stuff', so I paid for a full valet service for his car. He was delighted with it.
But I think you have to spoil the surprise by checking they want it. I later offered to pay for a deep clean of the house, it wasn't too bad but it would have made a difference. However he didn't want that. I suppose it would have been intrusive.

I bought an audible gift subscription for my father. He likes listening to plays and audible books. Good if they have smart phones.

TR888 · 04/01/2022 11:02

I quite like the audible subscription. Can both my mum and dad share the subscription?

If they like foreign / arthouse films what about a sub to BFI Player ?

Sadik · 04/01/2022 11:03

Two people can definitely be logged into the same Audible account, dd has my account on her phone.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 04/01/2022 11:04

National Trust or English Heritage joint membership would come in at just over budget if that would appeal.

FrancescaContini · 04/01/2022 11:04

Wine tasting

Stompythedinosaur · 04/01/2022 11:06

We bought an audible subscription for dmil's last birthday - they should be able to both log in to the same account.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/01/2022 11:10

National trust membership.
Might be a touch over budget though.

TinaYouFatLard · 04/01/2022 11:12

Could you stay overnight and look after your grandfather so they could have a night away? I feel bad for a couple in their seventies unable to have a night off.

KungFuFriday · 04/01/2022 11:12

If they have an iPad or tablet, a Readly subscription could be good. It gives access to lots of different magazines and can be accessed on multiple devices. You could use it too.

TR888 · 04/01/2022 11:26

Good ideas! I haven't heard aboutReadly, I must check it out.

I should have said, my parents live abroad, so a subscription to the National Trust would not work (but it's a great idea for my in-laws!). Someone suggested I look after my grandad for a night so my parents can go away... You're right, that's something I can do for them when I visit in summer.

I bought my Dad a voucher for a Rick Stein at home delivery. He absolutely loved it and has bought the same for friends.

Talipesmum · 04/01/2022 11:32

Don’t know if it would work overseas, but I bought my parents a digital National Theatre pass for the year last Xmas - gives access to loads of filmed NT plays online. They usually go to the theatre a lot but obv haven’t been recently due to covid.

ArsenicNLace · 04/01/2022 11:45

Are you near any steam railways? They tend to do afternoon teas or even full lunches? Always gone down very well with my elderly parents and does really cater for the elderly and infirm.

HandsyChatters · 04/01/2022 11:47

Sorry I missed the living abroad part.
