If you grew up in 70s/80s what things did you do which would be unimaginable these days.

Just thinking about this. When I was about 9 my friend and I used to go around knocking on our neighbours doors to see if we could pick dandelions (or something similar) for her pet rabbits. Seems such a random thing to do and obviously v v young to knocking on doors to go into their gardens!

Another thing I recall happening. We went to stay with friends in the country. No other children around apart from children of a local artist - a boy about my DB's age and a girl a year or so older than me - we'd have been 9 and 7 at the time.

DM and stepdad obviously got bored of bored kids (us) so she must've given us and these kids money so we could go swimming at the local pool (10 minute walk away) which we did. We spent the rest of our days doing things like placing 2p pieces on the local train track where the train went by (there was a foot crossing) (we found out later that the dog of the woman we were staying with had been killed by that train!), looking at and maybe going in a river with a weir and other 'adventures'. Most of it was safe but I recall going in some sort of WW2 stone bunker/building next to the river and before the train track. When I told my DM about this a few years later she was a bit Shock but I doubt we'd have told her at the time. Luckily we could both (all of us kids!) swim so that was one less worry for her!

When I was in the Guides (so 11 to 16 yrs old) we used to do a week's summer camp; one day of each camp they took us to London, and after a picnic lunch in Hyde park we were free to wander on our own, with instructions to meet back at 5pm before heading back to camp!

remember we had blocks of garage in close where we lived any that were left open we went in and made a tent these were made of breeze blocks so we spent several weeks with a stick rubbing and rubbing until eventually we made holes all the way through to the next garage no adult ever came to investigate what we were doing and this went on for weeks one summer the poor person whose garage it was

I love this thread and reading about the wonderful childhoods we had, with freedom to roam. It wasn't often anything went wrong
