shall I get dermal fillers tomorrow?

I am 57. I have never had anything like this done before. I booked to have it done ages ago and the appointment is coming up tomorrow and I'm getting cold feet. This is what is putting me off:

  1. I am worried the swelling and/or bruising might be visible. I am not telling anyone about it. DH and DD are pretty unobservant about me so I don't think they will notice, but I have a zoom meeting two days after. Will anyone notice then do you think?
  2. I was prompted to do it because of a party in about 10 days. I've noticed that swelling can be apparent up to a couple of weeks afterwards. Do you think 10 days is too soon for it to have settled down?
  3. I really hate to miss my yoga class that I do every day but apparently you should avoid exercise for two days. Perhaps that's a silly reason to not do it!

Does anyone have any experience or advice for me. Shall I go ahead?!

You're lovely as you are. Don't do it.

@BleuJay

Save your money and use it for a relaxing spa weekend. Looking and feeling relaxed and refreshed is better for you than having fillers which always look obvious.
They only look obvious if they've been done badly.

PandoraP I started fillers at 47 and botox for my 50th. I’m 52 now and have wrinkles but they are not very deep. I’ve deliberately kept some very light lines on my forehead and when the Botox wears off some crows feet return. The biggest difference has been in the jowl area. I was beginning to look very grumpy and I’m really not a grumpy person. Now I look less knackered, a less knackered, less grumpy 50 ish year old.

The people I know who have fillers look great. Not fake, just less knackered and with less RBF.

I think it's only when you combine with too much botox and lip fillers that it starts to look strange

I had dermal fillers for marionette lines (I always looked miserable even when I wasn't) and it has made me feel happier. I first had them done at a posh clinic in town, for £700 over 2 visits. The effects lasted about 18 months. I had them done again last September, at a local pharmacy, and it cost £200, just for one visit. The procedure was exactly the same as before - the man took photos from different angles, then wiped the area with cleansing wipes. He then injected local anesthesia into the areas. After 5 minutes or so, I lay on the couch and he injected the filler. He checked that I felt OK, and when it was all done, he sat me up and gave me a mirror. The difference was already apparent.

I had purple and black bruising on one side for about a week (it wasn't noticeable under make-up. The effect gave me so much more confidence. A couple of people said how well I looked (I hadn't told anyone I was going to have it done)

I'm 62, and although I'm certainly not looking any younger, I no longer look miserable Grin

Yes! People only notice bad fillers. When it's done well nobody knows

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 04/01/2022 10:34

Do you like your friends more when they look 'fresher'?

Wagsandclaws · 04/01/2022 10:36

I have Botox and fillers, I lost a lot of weight and my ( soon to be 50 years caught up with me. )

I asked to just have put back in what the weight took away and I think they are fairly natural.

I think well done they can look lovely ( I have Botox too ) you will look refreshed and less tired.

Downtime is fine, mine didn't look swollen for more than a few hours, you might get people noticing though especially if you have always been the way you are without any 'help' iyswim?

Lots of people are very anti tweakments but I am a firm believer in each unto their own, it's what makes YOU happy. Nothing wrong with growing old gracefully but I have a 9 and 12 yo and, I'm 50 at the end of this month and I was fed up with looking knackered.

Attached pic of me before fillers but before I lost 6 stone and after pics of me last month. I have for full disclosure both cheek fillers and nose to mouth fillers as well as a teeny tiny bit in my bottom lip.

A shame you cancelled as after 10 days swelling and bruising will have gone in 99% of people.
Also if the practitioner was going to use a cannula, then bruising is drastically lower risk :)

You look lovely wagsandclaws. Congratulations on the weight loss 💪🏽
