Planning for nice things ideas thread

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2022 09:31

I'm feeling a bit as if life has been passing me by recently. Too much focus on work and not enough on the nicer sides of life. So with that in mind, I want to start some planning so that I've got at least inside thing to look forward to every week.
So far I'm thinking:thinking
Cinema tripC

Meal out, or even just coffee and cake

Weekend away somewhere relatively lose to home, so not too much wasted in travel time

Massage

Maybe getting nails done, when they've grown a bit

Train ride to another town for lunch and a walk

Art gallery or museum

Can anybody think of anymore? They can be big or small, just need to be nice!

Oh, I needed this thread today!

How about something physical like doing a day yoga retreat or joining a Parkrun (and if you already do that, touristing).

If you have lots of time, volunteering? I'd love to do that at a cat sanctuary 😊

This is a lovely thread i would like to join please.
Some ideas of what I’d like to do:
Free museums in my town
Go for a walk by the river ending up at a cosy pub
Make a bug house in our garden with the DCs
Visit a national trust property with a picnic
Go hunting for daffodils in the spring

A winter evening by the sea. The sound of the sea at night is so soothing.

A park run is a good idea - need to get myself back in practice a bit first though, as it's been a fair few months since I had a run.

Thank you for the bulb ideas @SmallGreenStripes also whoever recommended the podcast
I've just found some lovely shower gel I put away for 'best'. I'm using it 👍

CrimbleCrumble1 · 03/01/2022 16:39

Meeting friends for a walk, shop, coffee, lunch. Maybe look Groupon or Wowcher for things in offer in your area. Sometimes you see things like salt cave or wine tasting that sounds fun.
Do you have a local theatre?

Chronicallymothering · 03/01/2022 17:08

This is such a lovely thread and I’m about to start booking weekend trips away, one a month. I got out of the habit of leaving home as 2 kids with additional needs. Since we both wfh for the foreseeable it’s getting a bit cabin fever here.

I also confess to having planted 19 billion bulbs already- to the point that I go to plant one and have to go carefully to find a spare piece of earth in the front garden Xmas Blush

AdaColeman · 03/01/2022 17:10

Go a'wassailing on Old Twelfth Night January 17th if you've got fruit trees in your garden. It involves cider or beer, (mulled is optional) banging saucepans, singing and cavorting, all good old fashioned fun! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Celebrate Chinese New Year, February 1st this year.

MinnieMountain · 03/01/2022 17:25

Go to the library for a good explore.

moregarlic · 03/01/2022 17:54

Gorgeous thread!

If not books, what about films coming out and go and see at the cinema? Much more exciting than Netflix and chill.

A magazine subscription? They’ve fallen out of favour but there are some lovely ones about and so enjoyable to sit down with a cup of tea once a month.

EtInTerraPax · 03/01/2022 18:05

I'd really like to have one of those nesting boxes with a camera in, that you can set up to observe the birds, and see when their eggs hatch, and watch them feeding their brood. It may be a little too late to do for this year, but I can look into it for next year.

startled · 03/01/2022 18:08

Per month
1/ a new recipe that you make
2/ a new to you classical film
3/ a new to you classical book ( I listen on audible , as a member many are free )

Dobbyhasnomaster · 03/01/2022 18:19

This is a lovely thread and I’m currently trying to do the same! I’m picking out some walks I’d like to do each month with my dog, and looking at some beginner level gardening that I can do.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2022 18:22

Lots of nice ideas, thanks. Ideally, I want stuff that involves going out, rather than things to do at home.

A trip to the library very soon is definitely on the list!

VenusClapTrap · 03/01/2022 18:24

@startled I’m doing classic films too! So many I haven’t seen. We’re starting with spaghetti westerns - A Fistful of Dollars last night. Loved it.

Moonface123 · 03/01/2022 18:27

l enjoy reading so try and buy one new book every month, usually secondhand on Amazon or Ebay by someone l haven't read before.
Also love listening to different speakers, youtube, can usually always take something useful/ helpful away with me.
Also really recomend watching Green Renaissance, youtube, beautiful meaningful stories, very short, approx 10 mins plus, centres on people who have found the real meaning of life/happiness.

Hugoslavia · 03/01/2022 18:33

Buy a good book on local walks (within an hour's drive) and get out and do something different where you wouldn't normally walk. A change is as good as a rest. Sign up to a short six - eight week weekend or evening class (art, yoga, pottery, cookery). Go to your local dog home and borrow a dog for a walk. Go to a local bookshop and peruse their titles/treat yourself to a new book. Attend a classical music concert. Try listening to different types of music. Plan your own fragrant garden or corner of a garden (the fragrant rose company is good), try wild swimming, buy some bird feeders and encourage more wildlife to look at, phone an old friend for a proper catch up or write a friend a letter, subscribe to a monthly magazine.

Hugoslavia · 03/01/2022 18:35

I've just got myself excited thinking about all the great things that I could do. This thread has given me a kick up the backside. It's so easy to get stuck in a rut or in a routine.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 03/01/2022 18:40

How about a dance class?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2022 18:45

I'd love to do a dance class, but not sure I'd be brave enough to go it alone.

A short course is a good idea.

OP posts:
APurpleSquirrel · 03/01/2022 19:00

I've booked two courses with vouchers I was bought in 2020 (thankfully carried over due to the pandemic).
DH & I have also booked tickets to see some comedians in March & May.

JammyRedRooo · 03/01/2022 20:12

Sure, here are a few -

March - Dinner out for wedding anniversary (I've got a list of restaurants I want to work my way through trying).
Trip to homeware shops to get bits to do bedroom makeover (DD going into her own room permitting)

April - Another restaurant from 'the list' for my birthday. Also wine tasting at a vineyard near us and an escape room game with family. Plan a big easter Sunday lunch with friends who had us over for it in 2019. Garden centre trip to stock up on seeds for this years vegetable garden, plus coffee and cake from their lovely little cafe.

May - Several trips to the theatre to see shows that were postponed during Covid or gifted to us. Probably a meal before each too. Bank holiday family bbqs. Go on a shopping trip to buy a few new back to work outfits (end of mat leave)

June - Going on holiday to France. Stock up on nice wine and cheese to bring back and consume over the rest of the summer. Start planning DDs first birthday party.

@VenusClapTrap we did some of the Clint Eastward's last year , they are great and so timeless , I was a kid when I saw them first time round and my DP hadn't seen any of them , I'm proud to say I got him hooked ! I believe the paramount Chanel is doing a Clint Eastwood season at the moment
