Selling Gin

Dogmum40 · 02/01/2022 16:58

Hi All, I didn’t know where to post and good old Google hasn’t come with an answer either so does anyone know where I can sell 13 unopened bottles of gin? I drink wine and gin at home and have decided to give up drinking the gin as I was consuming far too much but everyone buys me gin so for my birthday and Xmas so I’m left with 13 unopened bottles!

You can’t sell on eBay unless your have a license to sell alcohol and I’ve tried on sites like vinted and Shpock but people are offering 20 quid for them all! Or £2 per bottle! Some of them are fairly expensive (40-50 per bottle) and others are brands like Hendricks etc.. I’m not asking too much for it all but I also don’t want it to give it away for next to nothing if I can help it, none of my friends or family drink it so I can’t pass it to them for gifts and the only other option I can think of is to tip it down the sink which is such a shame so if anyone has any ideas on how to rehome my collection I’d really appreciate any suggestions! (Or message me if you drink it 😆)

I really want to give up drinking spirits at home so drinking it all isn’t an option with so thank you all for any help you can give! Or any ideas what I can do to with it all

Many Thanks ☺️

Do you have a local auction near you? We have one and booze seems to sell well at it.

Dogmum40 · 02/01/2022 17:02

I’ve looked into local alcohol auctions but it’s mainly for vintage bottles of wine, whisky and brandy etc. i could look further afield though so that’s a thought 👍 thank you

Could you post in local Facebook community pages, so not official Facebook market, and offer them for a few pounds cheaper then the going rate in supermarkets?

Could you have a quiz night or similar in your community Center and offer gin cocktails as a fund raiser? We did this and it was very successful.

That’s actually a really good idea thank you, I can’t sell it on the offices marketplace but that’s a great alternative

You need to get a horse trailer (Rice not Ifor Williams for the more authentic look), paint it in a pastel colour and put those two tone pale pink and cream hydrangeas round the ramp, then sell the gin out of it for £8 a glass, with some wanky tonic and a random fruit or vegetable in it. Then it's legal.

This is the best suggestion yet 😆😆😆 I drink it neat so I’ll have to invest in wanky pretentious fever tree posh shit and then flog it 😆

Where I live if the government seal is intact you can return full bottles for full refund.
I returned my deceased fathers alcoholic stash.

Can you? Even without a receipt or proof of purchase?

Yes even without proof or receipt. Call on a day with a senior manager and ask. No harm.

WildImaginings · 02/01/2022 17:40

I second Facebook. Even just put a post on your own wall; even if your close friends and family don't drink it, they'll know people who do.

I bought 4 bottles of gin a couple of months ago as a close friend of a relative posted on their wall. I happened to be there at the time relative saw the post, relative mentioned it and I asked if they'd message on my behalf to make an offer for all of them. Sorted.

Where are you ?
Asking for a friend .....

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 02/01/2022 17:52

If you can't sell it (sorry - I don't have any ideas where you could sell it!) what about regifting it for peoples birthdays/Christmas? I do this with all the bottles of Prosecco people insist on buying me when I cannot stand the stuff!

None of them drink it unfortunately! They are tea drinkers (I need new friends and family) next to that lot I look like I have a drink problem 😆

@Dogmum40 🤣🤣 oh well in that case I'm out of ideas! I have to admit I'm starting to favour a good cuppa over gin lately!

I’m doing dry January as I think my liver has been pickled in booze over Xmas so Tea will be my choice of drink soon! 😆

Could you donate it to a charity or a school/community group to use as raffle prizes?

I'd approach a local off licence. If you give it to them as Jon lot they might take it for cash or swap for something else.

Otherwise you're sorted for gifts for a while.

declutteringmymind · 02/01/2022 19:14

Job lot sorry.

delilahbucket · 02/01/2022 19:23

You can't sell alcohol without a licence, regardless of where, it's illegal. If you try and sell it on Facebook, not only can you get banned from Facebook, if someone reports you, you can be heavily fined and even end up with a criminal record.

Gift it to charity for raffle prizes or friends/family.
