Toothache keeping me awake

😫 I haven't had toothache is years. This tooth started feeling a bit odd a couple of days ago, and now is hurting quite a lot. Not unbearable, yet but getting worse and has had me awake for a couple of hours now. I've taken paracetamol, no change at all. I think I might have some codeine but avoid it as makes me feel sick.

Anything else I can do?

I'll call the emergency dentist tomorrow and hope to get in. I just want to sleep!

Do you have corsodyl mouthwash ?

ImFree2doasiwant · 02/01/2022 04:06

I don't. I found some anbesol in the kids medicine box, again not doing a thing.

Googled emergency dentist, not open at weekends!

DC going to their dad's tomorrow so will go to the pharmacy and see if they can give me anything. Wondering whether to take 1 codeine. It might be out of date by now

Nothing worse is there . I’m in Scotland so I know if was to phone 111 (not sure if number the same in England ) they can help you get seen by a dentist. I think some hospitals have them when emergency dentist is closed .

Do you have neurofen?

Youngstreet · 02/01/2022 04:16

I found ibuprofen the most effective when I recently had toothache.
Finally had a root canal beginning of December.
Two days ago I'm getting twinges again.
Totally fed up with it now so you have my sympathy.

ImFree2doasiwant · 02/01/2022 04:16

I don't have Neurofen. Just the paracetamol of possibly codeine. Or the kids ibuprofen.

It's just awful. I have a couple of crap teeth but it's not even one of those. The whole situation with lack of NHS dentists is depressing.

@Youngstreet oh no, that's awful. You'd hope it would resolve the issue wouldn't you, for a while at least. I had root canal and a crown about 15 years and after a lifetime of having no issues going to the dentist, the experience left me traumatised. I have a physical reaction (whole body shaking) once I'm in the chair.

I took some of the kids liquid ibuprofen. 10 minutes kater thought it was working, about 3 minutes of relief, thought I might sleep but then just as quickly its back and worse. It really is awful. Sad

Are you close to a big city? Most big cities have emergency dentists who will open on a weekend to see you.

Rawmum30 · 02/01/2022 04:51

I don’t know how to do links, but if you use your internet search engine by typing in natural cures for toothache, as I did, I immediately got 13 suggestions of possible relief… just from one source.
Please try that?

ImFree2doasiwant · 02/01/2022 04:53

Nearest City is just under an hour, and the emergency hours are the same as the one close by (same provider).

Thanks @Rawmum30 I'll try that.

@ImFree2doasiwant I hate the dentist too. I cried when he drilled my tooth!
If you have an abcess then until it pops or the tooth is treated you will likely have pain.
You may need antibiotics.

mowly77 · 02/01/2022 05:01

I would try the codeine because nothing is worse than toothache! My sympathies. I had v bad one once and nothing touched it apart from some super strong dihydracodeine (wrong spelling but some synthetic variant!) I got it from emergency out of hours dentist department at local hospital. Try Googling to see if any hospital near you at all has any emergency dental department at all? - they will see you as a walk in.

You could take something for nausea alongside it? Ginger? Peppermint tea?

SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 02/01/2022 05:09

A friend of mine told me once that brushing your teeth can help with toothache, something to do with stimulating the gums. It always helped provide some temporary relief for me! Hope the pain eases soon and you get some sleep. Toothache is a bitch! I remember lying on the floor of A&E once, wailing & crying because of an infected abscess. Not my finest hour!

Explosivefarts · 02/01/2022 05:30

Warm salt water rinse seems popular from Googling . Never tried it though. Hope you get some relief .

ImFree2doasiwant · 02/01/2022 08:19

Thanks all. I'm going to go to a pharmacy today. I did get some relief, and slept after about 5.20am til ds woke me up at 7. Had 20 minutes pain free then it started again I've taken more paracetamol and it seems to be subsiding

K might gobto bed having taken a codeine tonight. Not sure I can cope with it in the day!

It's so miserable!
