Bedtime stories 8 and 10yo boys

I have fallen out of the habit of reading to my children 8 and 10 at bedtime, mostly as they are reading their own books. (Youngest has just finished how to train your dragon and is reading, toto the ninja cat, Eldest enjoyed the Percy Jackson books and shapeshifter novels and is re reading Dogman books currently.

We are currently self isolating and I am enjoying reading the Graveyard book by Neil Gaimen to them.

Any suggestions for what to read to them when we are finished.

They are not interested in Harry Potter, much to my disappointment.

Artemis Fowl? I am reading them to my 8 year old at the moment and my DSS loved them aged 10.

The Explorer by Katherine Rundell.
My boys loved it

Mine loved Alex Rider (or the Diamond brothers funny detective stories maybe for the 8 year old), Young Bond, anything by Cornelia Funke, the Eddy Stone series (also funny) and Mr Gum (funny and a bit surreal), Harry Potter, Narnia books, Captain Underpants, Malorie Blackman .

My youngest dc 8 does not enjoy reading , but we've been reading him Harry Potter at night and he's really enjoying it! This morning he picked it up and read it himself! The Diary of a wimpy kid books went down fairly well , but this is the first time he's picked up a book by himself and read for enjoyment.

Diana Wynne Jones (Charmed Life or Howl’s Moving Castle to start)
Second Artemis Fowl
Professor Branestawm
Narnia (although my eldest wasn’t interested)
Redwall

Looks like they both like fantasy/adventure? I would suggest
Dragon Rider Cornelia Funk
Fablehaven Brandon Mull
Treasure island RLS
Chrestomanci Series DWJ
All books mine have enjoyed having read to them (& I have enjoyed reading!) Smile

If they like a bit of fantasy/adventure, then my top picks would be the Susan Cooper Dark Is Rising sequence, the Lloyd Alexander Chronicles of Prydain, and maybe Philip Pullman's Sally Lockhart books (possibly slightly too old for your 8 year old).

I have 8 and 10yos, recent successes have been the Wolf Brother series, the hobbit, Lord of the Rings, everything by Tom Fletcher, Gansta Granny and the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

CS lewis
Susan Cooper
Coraline

Thanks everyone, loads of great suggestions, plenty to work through.

I am planning on trying Artemis Fowl next and have found the books second hand on FB, so a win there.

Land of stories books, my son loved them! Tom fletcher, the other jk Rowling books the icabog and the Christmas pig.

Cressida cowell’s wizards of once series is good, in much the same way that how to train your dragon is.

My DS likes Abi elphinstone’s books quite a lot.

The polar bear explorers club series is good too.
