Party bag ideas

DD (nearly 6) and her friend are sharing a party in a couple of weeks. I am so fed up with getting bits of plastic tat in party which break straight away and end up in landfill.
Can anyone suggest a single item which we could do instead? Would rather not books if possible as they are all at such different levels… a craft project or something like that might nice… all ideas welcome!

What is your budget per bag?

Not really sure… due to Covid we haven’t done a party before…. Don’t want to spend loads but as there are 2 of us paying it isn’t as bad…

This is the sort of thing I would have done but the last couple of parties and Christmas has made me realise that there is so much waste…

We went to one once where little compostable pots filled with earth were given out, along with little envelopes of sunflower seeds to be planted - that was nice but wouldn't appeal to everyone.

Spudina · 01/01/2022 21:56

I did paper bags with stationary type stuff (notebooks, gliter pens, nice pencils, post it’s, erasers etc. I essentially raised The Range) for DDs 7. There’s also books of paper dragons and I put a few of those in. Went down well.

Mini colouring pencils and a small colouring book. Or, you can get party bags to colour in too (my son got some with Christmas presents in).

Stickers

Hair bobbles (useful at least!)

Wooden spinning tops/yoyos

Cookies/cake/sweets

Tub of playdough (not waste free, but, recyclable!)

Bath bomb

Oh, origami is fun too - a single sheet of paper per child with a simple instruction paper clipped to it for a frog/cup/something equally simple

Play-dog pots
Baker Ross craft kit
Kids drink bottle with some sweets in
Sticker / colouring book

There are loads of companies that do do green party bag gifts, this one is local to me & would highly recommend. www.etsy.com/shop/mossyparties?fbclid=IwAR0iKVjyj9c00JMPs-85efXgYTiTlB4i8qyvWyq8JnbQNmSyj0IwohjTeK0

Plain white t shirt with some fabric pens.
I bloody love doing party bags. I spend too much on them tbh.

I went to the works and got some books in the 10 for £10 section, they all got to pick a book to take home.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 01/01/2022 22:31

please no craft things that require parental input
the tired, overhyped party guest invariably wants to do it immediately on returning to the house, and gets cross if told it's not a good time.

I would suggest sweets, sweets, character socks, and more sweets.

AfterEightMintyCedric · 01/01/2022 22:31

Check out Baker Ross for craft kits.

Also Party Delights as you can buy allsorts individually rather than in multipacks which can be handy.

NerrSnerr · 01/01/2022 22:33

My daughter got a Christmas version of one of these from school for Christmas and she had a great time doing it

Try Cotton Twist: cottontwist.co.uk/ it has nice party fillers (eg initial key rings).

macaronip1e · 01/01/2022 22:38

It also has bigger things if you want one item - I’ve bought the personalised tins for party guests in the past

drspouse · 01/01/2022 22:44

DD and I put together a loo roll craft (with printed instructions) and some sweets and she made fimo medallions for each one, I baked them and put them on ribbons.
We usually do lucky dip books (the £1 packs from the Works or the Book People). We gave I Spy books one year so that doesn't need much reading but is good for the advanced readers, and Elmo which they had done in class (easy for some but they all liked it).

morechocolateneededtoday · 01/01/2022 22:46

My favourite has been a baking kit with all the dry ingredients, instructions and cookie cutters. Just butter to add! No waste at all!

Made a few days later and tasted delicious. I've also gifted nicer baking kits as presents (ones that come with ingredients and apron plus few other bits)

Almost2022 · 02/01/2022 00:20

We are doing sweet cones. You can buy them on etsy with stickers "thank you for coming to my party"
Alternatively, you can buy the sweet and cones on amazon and make them up yourself. That's what I'm doing.

One year I bought some small, plain canvas bags (like little tote bags) and ironed a football picture onto them - party theme. Added a bag of haribo and a pair of sports socks. Job done. Lots of the boys then used them for boots/sports kit etc.

Almost2022 · 02/01/2022 00:26

I'm also throwing another party soon after for 5 years olds and its unicorn themed so bought, unicorn stamps, bubbles, tattoos, punch balloons and will add flumps and chocolate buttons.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 02/01/2022 00:34

We use to always give a pack of sunflower seeds and a invite to "The who can grow the tallest". We have a little plant pot and instructions and rules.
We have loads of photos of kids next to sunflowers over the years.
We also gave plastic crap so I'm just whitening on!

My 7yo loves stationary type stuff, how about colour in pencil cases like these, with a few colouring pens in each one and a little notepad or eraser.
