In summer its easy. Now water just tastes boring. I sometimes add those vitamin fizzies to it, but its basically the same as drinking squash.

Suck ice cubes throughout the day?

Why do you need to drink that much?

Cookerhood · 01/01/2022 20:49

You don't need to drink 2 litres of water a day. You get water from food, tea, coffee etc. Just drink what you enjoy (not sugary though).

TooMuchSugar22 · 01/01/2022 20:49

I thought of it was with squash, tea etc you've still had the reccomended amount for the day.?

Ice, fresh mint, slice of lime? I think drinking to thirst is fine for most bodies though, and if you’re doing this it doesn’t get boring.

Jaysus. Your bladder will end up needing some attention

Glass with every meal. Glass before bed. Glass when you get up for a wee. 5 x 300 = nearly there

I've been drinking between 2.5 and 4 lts a day for the last week, it really helps me with weight loss when I do it every day. I have a 500ml bottle that I just sip from throughout the day and refill regularly, I use MyFitnessPal to log every bottle emptied so I can make sure I'm hitting at least 2.5lts.

If I don't fancy plain water then I'll have hot water with lemon juice or fruit teas, black coffee. You can also put fruit tea bags into cold water and let it infuse if you like the flavours of fruit tea.

codexa · 01/01/2022 20:56

Why do you think you need 2 litres of water every day in Winter? Liquid is important, not necessarily water only.

Count the number of cups of tea, coffee, juice, smoothies, milk in cereal, yogurt, and so on. Most of us get enough hydration and only need to top it up if we have been doing vigorous exercise. A small flask of a warm drink is great when out walking, and a small bottle of water in case you feel thirsty.

Too much water/liquid intake can wash away vital minerals, and can be medically dangerous too.

loveisanopensore · 01/01/2022 20:56

Unless you're an endurance athlete just drink when you've thirsty.

Cookerhood · 01/01/2022 21:03

4 litres a day could be dangerous.

Get sweaty!

Isn't it that 2L is recommended? I don't think coffee or juice or beer counts though

Of course it counts! It's still mainly water, regardless of what else is in it. And I think the medical profession has moved away from any sort of concrete recommendation regarding how much people should drink- I believe the general rule is now, 'drink when you're thirsty'.

Alcohol doesn’t count. The others do though.

Water companies like evian would like you to believe it, but it's not that straight forward.

Basically, you're body has a built in hydration meter, you'll get thirsty when you need to hydrate. Fluid also comes from food so drinking extra than you need is just filling your bladder for no reason.

The 2 litre a day advice was a misreading of a Japanese study that actually worked out we needed 2l of liquid via our food and drink.

So no you don't need 2 litres of water and everything else you drink per day.

It's 2L of liquid per day, not plain water.

Juice, squash, tea and coffee all count as liquids.

MrsDThomas · 01/01/2022 22:13

I only drink one coffee a day (morning) then water through the day. I can easily drink 1.5-2 litre. I guzzle the stuff

ChoccySprinkles · 01/01/2022 22:35

I would try to add water into what you eat. So having soups, cereal with milk and foods high in water like watermelon.

Also, drink the squash. Water is boring. If adding no sugar squash makes you drink more surely it’s a good thing

Mollypolly2610 · 02/01/2022 17:30

I make a 2 liter jug of water and add grated ginger, chopped cucumber, 2 squeezed lemons and a bit of mint. It’s addictive.
