We had this in the family in September, I got it on the 20th October and I only felt better mid December. Gp said it's a virus and can take up to 8 weeks to get over

AlbertBridge · 02/01/2022 17:51

Has anyone else lost their senses of taste and smell? I have, since yesterday. But still the LFT say I'm negative??!

MrsDThomas · 02/01/2022 20:22

I haven’t. I feel better in myself now than i did this morning.my throat stings when I cough and swallow, but ive just had a roast dinner and a soothing glass of port!

Medicinal of course

Six flipping weeks I had a cold during Autumn.

SaveThePennies · 02/01/2022 21:15

I came down with it on Xmas day, still not 100% right.

Definitely not a cold - perhaps a mild flu but I've had my flu jab so ???

Had characteristics of flu - aches, headaches, fatigue, tickly cough, nausea and off food.

Colds to me are constant runny nose, tonnes of snot, going through boxes of tissues, sneezing excessively, bunged up and can't swallow because you can't breathe through your nose.

This isn't part of what I've had - hence me saying it's not a cold.

Catch32 · 02/01/2022 21:36

Mine is an extremely sore throat and feeling groggy/fatigue. As some others have said, the frustrating thing is because it's not covid / debilitating flu, getting very little sympathy although I don't have the energy to do anything.

Really hoping this isn't a 2-3 week thing! I've found that gargling a glass of hot salt water a couple of times a day helps a lot with dulling the soreness and clearing some of the mucus.

AllYouCanEatBrestaurant · 02/01/2022 21:40

We've all had it here over the Christmas period. Utter misery, strange for us adults as well as it's the first time in years (apart from covid jabs) we've spiked a high fever. Several LFT over the illness period and a PCR. All negative, just some nasty ass flu cold shizzle. The aches are still getting me down, my shoulders, elbows and hips are killing me. Muscles in chest and abdomen from coughing aren't a joke either.

MrsDThomas · 03/01/2022 07:58

Did anyone bave anxiety with it? (In think it that). Im not a worrier. But fir 4 nights I haven’t slept because of this lousy feeling. Im tired. Desperate for sleep.

Last night i wentbto bed, thinking id sleep all night, but i got this heart thumping feeling, nausea, my mind racing and everything going through it.

What the hell is happening to me?

alienalan · 03/01/2022 08:14

The good old fashioned cold virus. I had one recently. Did 2 x lareral ajd 1 PCR. Not covid

BlueFlavour · 03/01/2022 10:32

@MrsDThomas
Yes I did. I would be on the edge of falling asleep and my heart would jump. Still happening now actually. Also felt very tearful. I thought it was because I was vulnerable, I could barely walk to the bathroom. That’s frightening.

Likkleredridinghood · 03/01/2022 11:05

@MrsDThomas I had that with covid tbh. Almost a wired feeling, couldn't rest or settle.
Like I said up post, several colleagues have done numerous LFTs which were negative, and 1 PCR negative, finally testing +ve after 8 days of symptoms.

I agree, I have had a little of a snuffly nose but not like I would normally get. I have been coughing now for over three weeks, I had a PCR at the beginning and have another today (just so I don't get fobbed off by the GP) It is absolutely horrendous, waking up coughing through the night, (weeing myself when I do), really tight chested, feeling like I can't breath.

I'm contacting the GP tomorrow.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/01/2022 16:34

Yep my DD had this before Christmas she lost the last week of term and the first week of her holiday to it - she got better then relapsed. Negative LFT and PCR. None of the rest of the household caught it strangely.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/01/2022 16:36

I also personally think all our immune system have been weakened by social distancing and all the hand sanitising and mask wearing etc. So we have very little immunity to everyday coughs and colds.

Exhausteddog · 03/01/2022 16:46

Exact covid symptoms except all tested negative

Covid seems to incorporate a variety of common symptoms that are not the same for everyone though?
DS - slightly blocked nose for about 3 or 4 days , no other symptoms.
DD - sore throat, cough, sneezing, strange taste in her mouth, earache, headache, general aches.
DH - cough, sneezing, diahorrea, general aches
Me - sore throat, hoarse voice, sneezing, runny nose, headache.

Any of those could be symptomatic of colds or general winter viruses.
If covid had a unique new symptom (eg chicken pox spots are very distinctive and not easily confused with spots or other rashes) I could understand the confusion, but all the symptoms I've seen reported are quite general and non specific to covid

NeedWineNow · 03/01/2022 16:53

@How2Help

@ NeedWineNow I can't believe for instance that in Winter 2020 it was reported that we didn't have a single case of flu!

Do you actually believe that no cases of flu were officially reported, or are you saying nobody said they had flu in conversation?

@How2Help I remember reading that was the case (admittedly in the Mail!) and was quite astounded at the time.
