Garden Fireworks & Law/Restrictions?

Would anyone know if there are restrictions on the size, type of fireworks that can be set off in an enclosed garden, or if they are disallowed in an enclosed space?

We have new neighbours a few doors down, who we think may be language students. Generally not too much trouble, though not perfect by far but last night was hellish as seems they were setting off what must have been exhibition grade fireworks in their yard/garden. This yard along with ours & 2 others forms a small amphitheatre effect, surrounded on all sides by 3/4 story houses. Yards/gardens are about 4mx 2,5m, so are small. So noise amplifies & a relatively tight closed in space. It went on & off for a few hours & then went crazy at 11,45 & then again 1amConfused

I was home alone as I'm ill & our poor 2 cats were petrified, one literally having a panic attack as our house sounded like a war zone😞

We've never set fireworks off in our yard as thought it unsafe & antisocial, seems our new neighbours aren't as thoughtful Hmm there's also potentially more celebrations coming up that they'd use fireworks for given their likely nationality & I don't want this again as the effect on our cats was heartbreaking & no doubt local wildlife suffered badly too.

Were they breaking any laws/restrictions, which will help me know how to tackle it.

Thank you

I don't know about laws but when my student neighbours did similar and set off fireworks very close to the house, to the point that one hit the house next to where I was standing, and then started a bonfire right next to the fence, I called the police. They gave them some well needed advice and put out the bonfire.

To clarify, I did ask them to stop but was ignored. You could have gone and spoken to them but that doesn't always work.

The only ones that can be sold to the public are legal. Yes in small gardens it seems ridiculous but they haven't broke laws. The best thing you can do is to politely ask them to put a note through if they plan further fireworks do you can ensure your pets are inside. My dog is petrified, I understand the frustration but there is nothing amiss alas

Thanks everyone. I'll try the note through the door & hopefully they do listen as it was extreme & we really don't want a repeat 🤞

If forgotten that I text DH a video clip & he was out with our friend who has some sort of pyrotechnics license that allows him to use bugger, not commercial fireworks (we've been to a few displays he's put on, though he has much bigger space & invites all of his neighbours too) Friend told DH that they didn't sound like legal fireworks to him, not without a license. No way of proving that though & at the end of the day, so long as we don't have it happen again, job done 🤞

They have broken the law by letting fireworks off after 11pm. Before 11 unless your local council have any restrictions I don't know if anything can be done.

No they are not. All over social media are people moaning about others having fun. There's a pattern to it . New years fireworks. Then summer time . Complaints about children playing in their garden . It peaks during the summer holidays. Then there's the odd garden party when there's a bbq and a bit of music. Which also causes complaints.

People seem to think they have the right to peace (365) days a year.

It was no fun for me having to try & calm a freaked out cat who was gasping for air & my wondering how the hell I'd manage an emergency vet trip in between throwing up. It was also an absolute wall of noise that literally shook our house to the point things fell off shelves in the kitchen

People are also allowed to expect some consideration for noise & safety too 🙄

Thanks @DanaScully53, they went off up until 1 am, so unfortunately no guidelines broken that way. I think it's the size/power of them that seemed the bigger problem, way louder than anything we had on Bonfire night & that's even with a big local display nearby

I wish I'd seen this on NYE. We had fireworks going off all night (fair enough), then they started again at 5am - with displays at 5am, 6am and 7am. I didn't think that was a bit of fun at all Angry

@RockinHorseShit sorry, thought the post was from today, so no, no laws broken on new years, sorry. Should start looking at when posts are from Blush
