A cousin just had a baby by c section ... What gift under say £20 would you have appreciated when you had had a baby/c section? I want to get her something nice just for herself.

Loose pyjamas/nightie
Some easy food/snacks to eat that don't require any prep
Something to read

Is she out of hospital? A hot choc pack with fancy powder, squirty cream, marshmallows etc? Or a nice water bottle or lidded cup for coffee. Or bring some easy but nice meals, whether homemade or from a shop.

Tbh I think just being in touch is the main thing, the first few weeks or months are a whirlwind and people turning up with lots of objects that need to be thought about and arranged can add to the stress.

I would definitely say easy meals, like a Cook voucher or similar.

I personally wouldn’t have appreciated a water bottle or lidded cup or hot chocolate pack as it’s all “stuff” to find a home for but with meals, you know that she will definitely use them

I never understand the suggestions to buy meals, personally I'd have hated this. I guess it depends on how well you know your cousin and whether it's something she'd like.

For me, the best gift I received after having my baby (by csection) was some Jo Malone body wash. I couldn't have baths straight away so bubble bath would have been useless (and with a new baby, baths just took too long!), but it still had the feeling of being a bit of a treat, so made it that bit nicer getting up and ready for the day each morning, no matter how tired I was Smile

I wasn't bothered about getting stuff for myself I was in the total baby bubble and loved baby related gifts. We got a lovely baby book and baby clay footprint set that were lovely. Babygrows and vests were also appreciated for our refluxy babies as we went through so many.

I gave birth via c section 2 weeks ago.

The best thing for me was some relaxing bath salts smelling of lavender which has helped with my scar healing.

I'd go for something consumable, depending on her tastes. Nice coffee, chocolate, bubble bath, ready meals, crisps. Nothing that requires a lot of tidying or preparation. Or as above a comfy top/long jumper. I lived in mine for a while.

One of those pick up sticks for when your drop the remote / phone / something on the floor and it hurts to much to work out how to get down there to pick it up..

I know not a particularly "nice" present, but DH bought me one and it was the most used baby gift by far!

Alfixn · 01/01/2022 08:57

Nicest gift i got for me was some really good quality hand cream and body wash. As a PP said, bath products wouldn't be useful for me, 5 months pp I still wouldn't have time to be taking baths!! However all the hand washing with changing 20 nappies a day meant my sensitive skin was very sore and cracked. The hand cream was a perfect gift, and the body wash felt like a small luxury every day!
We were given soooo many gifts for the baby, which was wonderful, but actually being given something small for myself meant a lot.

Alfixn · 01/01/2022 08:58

We also really appreciated food gifts.

Oh just to mention, I got one or two spa/beauty salon vouchers, which was a lovely thought, but I just don't know when I'll get a chance to use them tbh! EBF baby who can't really be left for long... it's a logistical struggle just to fit in time to get away to the dentist etc at times!

Baker90 · 01/01/2022 09:04

I really appreciated a water bottle with a straw that meant I could drink it without spilling it everywhere no matter if I was laying down; especially when breastfeeding too as I was so thirsty all the time! A really good cushion/pillow. A nice shampoo and leave in conditioner. Baths weren't an option So being able to at least feel nice and clean hair was amazing. Definitely a nice hand/body cream was appreciated.

Bottle with a straw is a brilliant idea
