Affected by fame (light hearted)

I happened to be sitting near someone from TOWIE today as they were heading to a show. I've never watched the show and only recognised her as I read the Daily Mail from time to time (I know! I know! Confused).

She was quite loud and brash. Her kids were the same and her husband was bragging about their hotel suite, presumably for attention. I don't know how famous people from TOWIE are but she and her husband seemed to think they were better than everyone else and were constantly talking about how they could do things like sit in the box at shows, presumably because she's well known (by other people).

Is this what fame is like? I wouldn't know obviously as I'm just a minion. Grin

I reckon Z list stars like TOWIE are more arrogant than real A listers. I knew someone who was in Big Brother and he was ridiculously arrogant, no idea why when only die hard fans of the show would know who he is.

HelloBunny · 31/12/2021 22:49

I remember seeing a TOWIE star strutting about Gatwick in her shades (the glamour) trying to be noticed. She was waiting for a delayed flight, same as the rest of us...
Another time I bumped into an A-List family & offered to take their picture (the mum was struggling to get the kids to settle), only realising who they were as I handed the phone back...

I worked in a specialist shop where we regularly had folk off t’telly in. Mostly they were boring or uncommunicative. But some were lovely.

In my experience most celebs go about their daily business in an understated way trying not to be noticed. The more well known ones anyway.
The lesser ones need the attention I imagine.

My first paid job was in John Lewis and it wasn't unheard-of for famous people who live(d) locally to pay visits - my co-workers would mention on their break about [so and so famous person] paying a visit to the store. Famous people in question included Mary Berry, Justin Fletcher, James Corden, Lee Ryan, Theresa May, Anne Diamond, Robert Lindsay and Jeremy Kyle

Houseofvelour · 31/12/2021 23:00

My SIL works in New York and often comes into contact with A listers through her job and from all she's told me, it sounds like the more famous you are, the less you want to be noticed.

fedup1000000 · 31/12/2021 23:05

They were talking loudly about how they were considering chartering a boat on the Thames and how their hotel suite was too big for them. I did wonder who they were trying to impress but I also thought I have no idea what it's like to have any fame so maybe this is what you have to do to remain relevant.

Confused about bragging over how they could sit in the box at shows....
Erm, can't anyone do this? All you've got to do is get four/six/eight mates together and book it.
Even as a complete unknown I have had a box at concerts or the theatre, with family or friends.

DrWankincense · 31/12/2021 23:09

Was it Sam Faiers and crew?

HelloBunny · 31/12/2021 23:09

TOWIE-types would also be big fish in a small pond, and would no doubt impress the locals in their own high street. But, sound likes total knobbers, as soon as they’re in London.

Cocogreen · 31/12/2021 23:10

I would have struggled not to laugh.
That carry on from anyone - from
TOWIE - or not - is pretty funny ( and pathetic!).

CocoaN · 31/12/2021 23:11

Sam Faiers?

hilbil21 · 31/12/2021 23:12

Was it sam or her sister lol

fedup1000000 · 31/12/2021 23:13

@DrWankincense

Was it Sam Faiers and crew?
Haha. Yes but I didn't want to name her as I've never seen the show and didn't know if this was just an act or something.

I had a long chat about mini Yorkshire puds with pigs in blankets in them with a real Hollywood star in Tesco a few days ago.
I had no idea who he was, but he had a 'thing' about him.
I would guess that when you are the real deal, you don't need to shout about it 🙂

HarrietSchulenberg · 31/12/2021 23:16

Proper A listers, and even most B listers with a bit of class, either try to be invisible or ARE invisible to us mere mortals as they are assisted to move through life discretely. Anyone trying to draw attention to themselves is nowhere near that level and get pissed off when they're ignored. I used to enjoy annoying them in the days I occasionally rubbed shoulders with them through work.

fedup1000000 · 31/12/2021 23:18

Her son and his friend ran into my child's buggy while she was sleeping and made no apologies. Sam's husband was watching and didn't say anything. I just thought to myself that money can't buy you class.

Oh dear :(

fedup1000000 · 31/12/2021 23:31

Obviously fame affects people in different ways. The few other famous faces I've met have been lovely.

Now I'm showing my age here but I can remember being sat in a fairly trendy bar place in Oxford city centre one December. Next table to us was Michelle Collins of Eastenders fame - think she was appearing in panto at the time

My god was she funny! Loud, boasting away and when she got up to walk to the loo, she literally tossed her hair and sashayed across the floor. You probably had to be there but it was very much LOOK AT ME
