Cystitis - blood when peeing

Hello

I woke up this morning with stomach cramps and stinging when peeing. I've been taking painkillers and drinking lots of water. I've now got blood in my urine, NHS says Cystitis can clear on its own in 3 days but should I see the GP now or wait.
I'm not sure if they are actually open tomorrow though

Actually just seen they are shut until Tuesday. I guess I keep drinking water and hope for the best

Try the NHS 111 online service. I hope you feel better soon.

tectonicplates · 31/12/2021 20:12

If you're actually peeing blood then you need to be seen asap as it's a UTI, not just cystitis. If you don't have access to a Saturday GP then you need to go to an urgent care centre or drop in clinic.

Blood in urine is an infection you can’t wait till Monday. Small bit of burning you can sometimes flush out by drinking loads over few days but if your bladder is so inflamed your passing blood you need antibiotics or could have serious blood infection. Plus it so painful! Ring NHS 111 and see what they are advise but I think it’s gone well passed just waiting for a few days.

Riverlee · 31/12/2021 20:13

Blood in urine should always be checked out. Is there an out-of-hours doctor you can go to? Or ring 111 for their advice.

Bagelsandbrie · 31/12/2021 20:15

Ring 111 - if you need antibiotics they’ll send some through to a pharmacy for you.

pinkcattydude · 31/12/2021 20:15

Do you have a walk in centre they have prescribed for me when I had the same?

Bagelsandbrie · 31/12/2021 20:15

*a prescription I mean…!

Tickly · 31/12/2021 20:16

Please get yourself seen. Ring 111. You'll probably get a doctor call back and antibiotics prescribed remotely and sent to a chemist that's open. That's an infection that needs proper treatment. You don't want it getting worse or affecting your kidneys.

ParkheadParadise · 31/12/2021 20:18

The Chemist gave me antibiotics without a prescription when I had that as long as you haven't had antibiotics in the last 6 months.

Motherofmonsters · 31/12/2021 20:24

Thanks everyone, I've rang 111 and they are going to get out of hours to call me,

Hope they get back to you some point today tomorrow and you are not to uncomfortable.

Motherofmonsters · 31/12/2021 23:28

Well I'm still waiting to be seen, they've assured me it'll be tonight. Seems a tad pointless as no pharmacies are open but I don't
want to lose my space in the queue

If they give you a prescription, then there will be an emergency pharmacy open tomorrow. Look online to find your local one.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 31/12/2021 23:43

They may send you to a walk in place to get some antibiotics.

Motherofmonsters · 01/01/2022 00:08

There's no walk in places around here unfortunately. Now waiting at the hospital car park to be called in so getting somewhere

The last time I had cystitis I used the NHS Livi app and had a zoom consultation with a Dr within 30 minutes and a QR code for my antibiotics. However I have suffered a lot in the past and have my own urine “dipsticks”. Do you have any bicarbonate of soda in the house? Dissolve a teaspoon in a glass of water ( lemon barley if you have it) and drink it. It’s one of the main ingredients in the over the counter cystitis remedies. Down a couple of tall glasses of that if you can. You might also run a bath and sit in that and wee in there because it’s much less painful.

AnxiousWeirdo · 01/01/2022 00:27

How are you doing op? Hopefully you've received your anti biotics by now?

Blood in urine can be just cystitis, I have it most months, confirmed through bloods/urines samples, a cystoscopy and many, many urodynamic studies and ultra sounds. The consultant told me that the inside of the bladder can get irritated to the point of bleeding with cystitis, but it's not that common, so it should always be checked as it is more common with utis.

ImInACage · 01/01/2022 00:38

If you have a 24 hour Tesco near you, their cystitis sachets work wonders, until you can get to the go.

Motherofmonsters · 01/01/2022 00:51

Thank you all for your messages.

I've made it home with antibiotics, as I was at the hospital he just gave me a packet so definitely worth the appointment. He confirmed its a bladder infection so hopefully the antibiotics will work.

Now I'm just hoping DD doesn't wake up early/in a minute

What a start to the new year for you! You poor thing. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon and you get well soon. Thanks

CornishTiger · 01/01/2022 01:14

At least you are starting the new year with meds to get better x

BashfulClam · 01/01/2022 01:18

The pharmacies open on an emergency rota so never worry about that. Out GP (Scotland) had a poster up to go to the pharmacy for a uti in the first instance if you are female and aged 25-65. Try and get at least 2-3 litres of water down as that’s what the doctor told my DH when he ended up in A&E with bc a uti. If you gave one siesta drink even though peeing is uncomfortable it wil help.
