Are laundry services worth using?

Got so much washing built up that I’m thinking of sending some out. I notice getting bedding and towels done seems a lot more expensive than a bag of other washing, is there a reason for this? I don’t want to send out my ratty old vests etc. Anyone use such a service?

From time to time I use a laundry service purely for ironing. I LOVE ironed bed linen but with a business to run, house to run and 3 kids under 10, I don't have time to do it myself. I just wash and dry it and drop it off for ironing. If I'm going anyway I'd get them to do DH's shirts but otherwise he does them himself. I'd say my DM would be scandalised if she knew Grin, but when we were kids she was a full time SAHM and had more time to allocate to housekeeping than I do. I keep thinking that when I grow up I hope to be as good as her but at the age of 42, that ship has probably sailed!!!

Do you have any outdoor washing machines near you? In a petrol station or supermarket? I used one for the first time yesterday as my machine is broken and it was great. Quicker than my own machine too.

Outdoor? No I don’t think so… there is a laundrette about 2 miles up the road. Might be best as could use own washing liquid

I realised recently that I spend many hours getting washing dry over the winter (I have no tumble dryer). So I found a laundrette that collect my bedding and towels, and wash / dry / fold it. It is a game changer. A complete game changer. I really recommend it. I only get my towels and bedding done every couple of weeks. And it has saved me so much time and effort. I cannot believe I have waited so long before I decided to do this!

I pay about £23 to get all our bedding done (king size and 3x single beds) and a couple towels thrown in. I don't pay for it to be ironed.

Hi OP, using a laundry can be fab, especially for clearing a backlog. The reason towels and bedding cost more is because they're bulky items and towels take ages to dry. Try asking for local recommendations on Facebook or In Your Neighbourhood as prices and standards do vary (as in any service industry!).

Thanks so much all. Does £16 for a double duvet set seem reasonable? It seems about the going rate round here

That's a pity. They're very useful. We have a few around here. I'm sure that price varies by area but here it's £5 for an 8kg load, £10 for up to 18kg and £3 for the dryer.
