Hi, I really want to make new years day a bit special this year. Any suggestions of traditions to make the day memorable Smile

Special breakfast; we're making a Nutella croissant thing tomorrow.

Steak pie for dinner!

Whip all the Christmas decorations down

Biiiiiig clean!

None of those things are memorable but I enjoy them Grin

First thing - sea dip, home for pancakes with husband and child (4), who would prefer to stay there in the warm 😁

We’ll go for a walk if the weather is partway decent, up to six miles. Takes little legs about three hours. Picnic lunch on the go.

If the weather isn’t good, board games at home turning the picnic in to a basic buffet.

In the evening, once we’ve got four to sleep we will watch a film or, if we haven’t already finished it work on whatever monster Lego model we’ve been building together since Christmas eve Grin

Pretty low key, and always “just us”. We will go and see PIL on Sunday, and then potter around the house/garden doing jobs.

@cheesecurdsandgravy can I just say it sounds like you have such a lovely life. What coast are you on? SE Cornwall here but single parent and my almost 4 year old also prefers to keep warm so no sea dip for me. Hoping to convince him into a wet suit next summer though.

parkrun - but unfortunately they've done away with the New Year Double

It's the day we have the gammon/ham

I wish I lived in Cornwall! I always get Insta-envy of swimmers!

My coastline is distinctly northern and mostly mud. But still, wetter is better 😁

Also, in the interests of fairness of representation there, there’s at least ten hours of unaccounted for chaos caused by weather/child/moody and hungover man to contend with Grin

Lunchtime drink in our local with my parents and sibling! (We never do this apart from on 1st January)

I tend to go on a decent National Trust walk on NY Day. In the past I've travelled quite far (as the roads are dead) but will be travelling locally tomorrow as I'm feeling lazy.

Usually take the DH and DS, but am likely to be on my own tomorrow as they want to chill! Suits me fine, I'm ready for some alone time after 2 weeks of school holidays.

I'll also be writing out my 2021 diary and calendar and we're heading out for a meal tomorrow night.

Big early morning walk with dog and all the children.

Steak pie.

Sultana cake, Madeira cake.

We always go to the beach. We're about an hour away from several so we choose one, go for a walk with my parents and brother and family. The kids play, mine invariably go in the sea in whatever wholly unsuitable clothes they're wearing! We grab some fish and chips at some point.
