Sorry middle of my sentence interrupted beginning of yours

I give up. Trying to have a conversation with OH. Before I've even finished explaining something he's jumped in going off on his own take on the subject when I haven't even got the point out.

Am I alone here?

No, mine will try finishing my sentences - especially if I’m talking to DTs. I’ll often continue once he’s finished his assumption by saying ‘now you’ve told me what I’m trying to say, I’ll actually say what I intended to say!!’

Northernsoullover · 30/12/2021 20:50

I have to remember this.

TurquoiseDragon · 30/12/2021 20:50

My ex used to do this. I'd just tell him to shut up and let me finish.

Northernsoullover · 30/12/2021 20:50

The phrase! Grin

Svara · 30/12/2021 21:02

My sister does this, not just to me, her boyfriend too.

justasking111 · 30/12/2021 21:11

OH does it to others not just me. If I want a conversation with sons I make sure he's not around these days. At social gatherings I avoid a group he's in and join another group. It's getting embarrassing and bloody annoying he's getting worse

Yes, DP does this constantly and then I forget what I was saying. It is so frustrating, especially as it’s usually a completely unrelated subject (did I tell you the cat did XX, X team is playing, ooooh another lockdown???)

Definitely using this thread title as a response next time.

Full phrase is

"I'm sorry did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours"

DS taught it to me 😅

I know I can do this, so I'm conscious of it and mostly manage not to do it. I think it's hereditary. My mother is awful at this. and yet I'm the rude one for pointing out that I've been interrupted and what she's jumped onto is nothing like what I was going to say. Occasionally I have important information to impart, but she wonders why I don't tell her anything. It's because I've bloody tried and failed.

NutellaEllaElla · 30/12/2021 21:30

My DH and his dad are the same. It gets to the point where I have to interrupt him back which I hate.

justasking111 · 30/12/2021 21:59

OH used to say my dad did this which was annoying. It seems I did marry my dad after all 🙈

My son does it - particularly when he has had a drink (he's in his 40s). He and my daughter were at mine last night and he did it every time I started to speak. He knows he does it and usually manages to stop himself when sober but after a drink it's hopeless.

WisestIsShe · 30/12/2021 22:24

I just say, I'm still speaking, with an icy glare. Always works.

justasking111 · 30/12/2021 22:48

They just aren't listening are they 🥺
