DN from overseas is considering applying for the University there. We are her only family in the UK but live at the other end of the country. She's a great girl, will have no issues making friends etc, we will be here for her as much or little as she needs, it's just we're being asked for general info but we have never been to the city.

@Whatwouldnanado you have posted in relationships? There may be a better board for your question elsewhere?

Thank you! Intended to post in general chat.

I went to school there. It's a lovely place to live (if expensive). Plenty of outdoorsy things to do nearby if that's her thing (the beach, sailing, the South Downs) and also a good theatre, shops etc. It's small, compact and more like a large town. But the university only became a university quite recently so she ought to do some research about how the degrees are regarded by employers and think carefully about the cost versus their value.

We live in Chichester. The uni is very popular, good facilities and has a very good pastoral support team. It’s an expensive place to live housing wise. But I believe the halls are quite reasonably priced. We take on lots of uni students where I work and they all seem happy with it.

My daughter went to Chichester uni as we live locally, she did very well and enjoyed it, there’s the Bognor campus too so find out which campus she will be on before deciding. Chichester is a lovely city, no night clubs but plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants, for clubbing she would have to go to Brighton, Portsmouth or Southampton.
West Wittering beach 8 miles south is a winner with students in the summer.
I know the security company and some staff that both campuses use and I can confirm that the students, particularly the female students are very well looked after. I also know one of the uni councillors, they have a great team who give great support to students.
There are lots of overseas students too.

What is she hoping to study? I lived there for donkeys and my family still do. I'm here atm staying for new year.

Its not exactly vibrant like, say, Brighton or Portsmouth, but they do have excellent courses and a diverse student community.

Small historic city 😊
Lots of nice pubs, places to eat and cafes during the day. Some nice bars but limited nightlife and often very quiet in the evenings.
Good student union and campus community.
Good base for visiting other cities such as Brighton, Portsmouth, Southampton and London (1.5 hrs to Victoria by train).
Near to the beach/coastline (can access by bus or bike) and lovely countryside.

Some courses are at the other campus in Bognor (seaside town about 10 miles away) 😊

@Magnited you must have driven through Almodington 😂 the Hills have Eyes hamlet.

Which course will she be doing? I work in a university and I know chichester well. If she’s intending on doing one of the sports related degrees then I’d recommend it. She won’t get the same buzz as going somewhere like Leeds, Bristol or Birmingham though
