Where to shop for clothes for a 12yo boy

My usual staples of Fat face / John Lewis / Marks & Spencer's aren't really cutting it anymore. I did get some nice skinny jeans in Next recently, but where else could I look for some things?

DS would probably like some tracksuit bottoms, but I'm not very keen 😄🙈. Is there a slightly different / smart tracksuit bottom that I haven't found yet?

Thanks!

River Island do xs and xxs . My teens spent their teens in their jeans.
Also yes to jogging bottoms..so easy to wear, wash and dry. Get used to them as teens seem to love them as so comfortable after school uniforms all week. As long as they have decent clothes for some occasions its important to let them express themselves in their clothes.
Sales great time to let him loose!!

Yeah, give over on the joggers - never understood the snobbery about them. If you had girls you'd presumably let them wear leggings as they are comfy and practical. Lots of them are slim fit now which makes them look a bit smarter (if you need him to be smart)?

From.a really young age DS has only ever worn joggers or shorts. He finds jeans uncomfortable and not soft enough. He wasn't happy about having to wear long trousers at secondary. Sometimes I think it would be nice if he looked a bit smarter when we are going out for a meal etc but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter (it's not as if we go anywhere particularly posh anyway)
I bought some smarter clothes for weddings/funerals but they were only worn a couple of times before he grew out of them. He borrowed some trousers for the last funeral we went to as it was in lockdown

Mine only wears joggers and tracksuits too - refuses jeans.

Got some nice soft trousers for him from Lands End last year which he loved. They’re out of stock at the moment though.

Really worth getting the H&M app. They often give you extra discounts if you sign up and those are only available in the app. Also if you shop in store and scan the app it stores your receipt there if you need to return something that’s useful.

Uniqlo is good and some of it is smart enough not to look like basic joggers.

In the nicest possible way op just let him choose his own clothes as he is entering his teen years and it’s one less battle. If you insist then have one outfit that is acceptable to you and ask he wears that on family outings. As for ds age 12 it’s sporty clothing but he is an active 12 year old so makes sense. He wears slim fit joggers (Nike and Adidas) and random t shirts that he likes - Batman, Adidas etc. For a smart outfit he has Levi’s and a shirt. Also kids at school still pick on difference and as someone who was bullied terribly I would never want that for my child.

Mine likes River Island in addition to Next, H&M and Hype although some of the Hype stuff lasted one wash. He likes his sporty joggers but tends to only wear them around the house. The rest of the times it's all about skinny jeans, converse and hoodies.

ProudThrilledHappy · 02/01/2022 12:04

Ds and his friends mostly wear adidas or sometimes Nike. Black and white stripes everywhere. When they come round it’s like a house full of mumbling zebras

AlexanderArnold · 02/01/2022 12:05

Mine also live in joggers, mostly slim fit Nike, Adidas, CCC or club training gear. They also like Hype and SuperDry. Agree with one pair of normal jeans/trousers for an occasion, but let them wear what they want otherwise. Their mates seem to do the same.

As everyone else has said, just let him wear what he likes. I have a 10yo and 12yo. Both only wear joggers / shorts and sporty t shirts and hoodies. The older one is now quite specific about what type he wants (Nike, Adidas, Ellesse) and clothes are becoming more important to him. Its part of them developing their own identity and as someone who also loves clothes I find it quite sweet really!

Phillipa12 · 02/01/2022 12:29

13 year old in this house who will only wear joggers, I find the muktipacks from Asda excellent. For tops and hoodies he wears a lot of Fat Face mens small as he likes the blue/dull green/burgandy colours, Next is also good for basics. He has yet to be properly interested in clothes which I'm quite happy with considering how much a Fat Face long sleeve t-shirt costs!

Since my DS got into branded stuff I found TK Maxx great. He doesn't care if its latest season - he just wants the branding. You can get Ellesse, Fila, Champion (which all seems to be back in again) t-shirts for about £12-15 and hoodies for around £20-25. Not cheap, cheap but a lot less than JD Sports etc.

Allthepickles · 02/01/2022 17:32

11 and 15 year old boys, both recently decided they care what they are wearing. Both ask for Nike, Adidas, North Face, Under Armour, Calvin Client and Armani.

Hype and superdry are out
Absolutely not the sports own branded stuff, eg McKenzie, Sonneti, Slazenger etc

12 year old DS lives in joggers, tshirts/hoodies and trainers nowadays. He likes branded clothes so Nike (mainly), Adidas etc but he understands it adds up so has a mixed wardrobe of branded and non-branded. I found some great stuff in recent H&M sale which he's happy with. He's very slim so it's not always easy finding sporty clothes that look nice. I bought him some Primark joggers and tshirts early last year which he still wears...though I doubt he will agree to Primark gear next time we go shopping!
