HELP - Is my car insurance info correct?!?!?!?!!

Hello. I was recently involved in a minor car accident where the third party verbally agreed to take liability, but has not yet done so, and when i called them after the accident they said we "could let the insurers handle it", which doesnt fill me with confidence that he's going to take liability. No one was hurt.
When I applied for my car insurance, I ticked my occupation as unemployed due to disability. I don't work due to fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression and ptsd. As these conditions do not seem to be notifiable from what I have read as they don't impact my driving, I have never informed dvla or my insurers. Am I right in thinking that I don’t have to disclose this information ? No further details were requested at the time when i got the insurance.
I should also point out that I am on medication, but none of it explicitly states that I am unable to drive when taking it.

My GP has never told me not to drive, but at the same time, i didnt think to ask, i didnt realise my conditions/meds might be notifiable.

Do car insurers ask disabled customers about meds/conditions after a crash?

I'm so worried i've done something wrong that is going to void my policy and possibly cause a stream of other problems.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Check on the DVLA for notifiable illnesses?

Thegirlwithnousername · 29/12/2021 17:07

www.gov.uk/health-conditions-and-driving/find-condition-a-to-z

Here's a list find yours and it will tell you if you need to notify them or not.

I did - DVLA website and gov website says anxiety, depression and ptsd are only notifiable if 'they affect your ability to drive', I don't feel that mine do. I have never had an accident, had over 20yrs no claims. But i am worried the car insurance company will see i am disabled and start asking me about my conditions and then judge me unfairly because of them.

If they're not notifiable conditions you're fine. I've never been asked about any medical conditions after an accident.

Thegirlwithnousername · 29/12/2021 17:11

I think you will be fine, If they aren't notifiable then you haven't done anything wrong.
Hopefully it gets sorted out soon.

I work for an insurer. We don't ask you about your medical conditions. Frankly, it's none of our business unless it's a DVLA notifiable illness.
Contrary to popular belief, we are pretty nice people and are not out to catch you out!
I hope the claim goes through in your favour.

Thank you so much for your response, you have no idea the relief of getting a reply from someone who works for an insurer! Will keep everyone posted on how i get on and the outcome of the claim - thanks again!

one more thing - when i took out my insurance, ive got a vague recollection of someone phoning me and asking if id declared my disability to dvla, and i think i panicked and said yes. this might be a false memory because im worrying, though. i dont have any declared illnesses on my insurance or with dvla (because as far as i was aware they werent notifiable) - if i did say yes to that question on the phone, will i be asked about it in light of this accident?

Hey, policy drafter here (as in one of those that writes the damn things in the first place)

  1. if you've honestly answered their questions set, then the insurers are on notice for THEM to ask YOU any further information - provided you're a regular consumer and not a business
  2. if they did call you and ask you about declaring to the DVLA it would be on them to prove that your answer would have in some way changed the terms/premiums provided. Or worst thing that they wouldn't have offered cover it the first place. But as you say, your conditions are fine under DVLA guidance.

Also it's actually really bloody difficult to void a motor policy - you have to go to court. So its very rarely done.

Upshot - don't worry :)
