OUCH! I've never had a pair before! The actual shoe bit is fine. It's the bit just above my ankle that is really sore. Any tips?

Silicone heel pads under thick socks and only wear them for short bursts of time to begin with - it’s a long and sometimes painful process but once you’ve broken them in, it’s worth it!

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 29/12/2021 11:17

Rest your feet between wears, wear around the house, accept that there will be blood, persist!
You'll eventually have a pair of boots that are so comfy you won't want anything else

GCITC · 29/12/2021 11:29

Water in big food bags, put into the boots and then boots in the freezer for a couple of days. Really helped soften mine up. You can also buy a softening balm, but I've not tried that.

I've got the balm, I'll be honest I'm not sure it makes much difference, makes them look nice and makes me worry less about the creases cracking though
Potnoodleforbrains · 29/12/2021 11:46

Stick panty liners on your heels / bottom of ankle. Then put on your socks. It's magic, no more pain.

Howshouldibehave · 29/12/2021 11:48

Mine at university nearly killed me! I attached them (gently!) with a hammer in the end-on the heel/ankle bit which actually did the trick. It softened the stiffness of them.

aramox1 · 29/12/2021 12:56

DMs make a special softening cream which really works !

RainbowSkiesGalore · 29/12/2021 12:58

Newspaper will soften them.

SadSplinter · 29/12/2021 12:59

Rub the Wonder Balsam on the inside and outside of the ankle every day, and wear two pairs of socks. It won’t take long to wear them in.

murasaki · 29/12/2021 13:02

Rub a bar of soap on the inside

ChristmasCarolly · 29/12/2021 13:04

Do what you would do for any other pair of stiff leather boots. The DM 'breaking in cult' is absolutely bizarre!

Mabelface · 29/12/2021 13:14

They do their own socks with reinforced bits, or use hiking socks.

Why do people deny it?? It's a truth universally acknowledged that DMs are a bugger to break in. People aren't making it ups

AlbertBridge · 29/12/2021 13:45

Vaseline really helps to soften the leather. Rub it on the inside, every day. Use loads.

And wear special blister plasters. They stay on for ages. Wear those, and then wear the boots as much as you can stand to.

BearSoFair · 29/12/2021 13:47

Two pairs of socks! And good luck...I bought a pair in 2019 and they still rub occasionally.

doglikescheeseontoast · 29/12/2021 14:05

Do you leave the first couple of eyelets open?

I have at least 12 pairs and I have never had to break any in. I don't fasten them up to the top, however.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/12/2021 14:51

5x7 inch wound dressings prevent blisters. There does not need to be blood.

Yes I have a pair !

Try a hair drier on the part that hurts before wearing them. It makes the leather go softer for a bit
