When did you remove stairgates?

Just wondering as I have no idea. My children are 4.5 and nearly 3, both fine in the stairs but we've still got a gate at the top just in case they come out of bed at night and get disoriented.

What ages were your children when you got rid of the stair gate?

The 15yo has one across his bedroom entrance to stop his younger siblings from going in to his room. He prefers it this way.

You can keep them up as long as you like. Got them down in kitchen/dining areas too to stop dog from wandering if we have visitors.

Youngest child is 4yo.

DD is 4 and we still have one across the stairs for that reason; she can open it but she has to go past the stairs for the bathroom and our room and is rather keep it for a little longer in case she over balances when sleepily going past

We moved when dd was about 2.5 and never got around to reinstalling the gates as she seemed fine. I do leave a light on at night though so she’s less likely to misjudge there being the stairs there (and she rarely gets up in the night. She prefers to sit and yell for me!).

DS2 was born when DS1 was 2yr 2m and the gates were already down - I had a planned section and so needed DS1 to be able to do the stairs by himself.

They never went up for DS2, who just learned to use the stairs safely younger than his brother.
