Unexpected heavy bleed - advice!

I have Adenomyosis, periods are hell but not hugely heavy. Woke up to light bleeding this morning, with the pain getting progressively worse. Usually I take opiates for the pain, but I don't have any currently in the house as period isn't due for days. I've just stood up and walked into my kitchen. DH heard me shout 'oh fuck' I felt a sudden gush and looked down at my light grey tights and I was soaked in blood. Easily a half a pint of liquid. Soaked through, tampon, pad, pants and tights. I struggled to get everything off without getting blood all over me.
I'm now sat on the sofa, on a thick towel, puppy pad. Trying to get pain relief from anywhere. Do I just need to grind this out? Couldn't face going anywhere in case it happened again!

I would call 111.

Please get help from 111 or whatever stands for a gp service on a bank holiday. They may give you something to slow the bleeding, although as you have a diagnosis you may know what you need. Keep count of how many pads/tampons you go through in 12 hours as that will be their guide as to severity. I also say this from bitter experience last summer, please ensure you get a blood test for your iron levels- mine were v low and I needed treatment. You dont say what age you are, but at any age, this is not something you should put up with, or any medical professional should say you should live with.

Definitely don’t ignore it, it sounds like a big change in what you’re experiencing.

Also it could well be something that gets worse so you want to get the ball rolling ASAP with getting it investigated because there are appalling delays at the moment. (I went to my GP about heavy bleeding in July and it was the end of November before I saw a gynaecologist.)

Definitely 111, this isn't normal

Come to think of it, when I spoke to 111 about my blood loss recently their cut off for whether it was serious was whether I had lost 2 cups full in 20 minutes. Half a pint in one go is more than that so I think in your shoes I would call 111. Good luck xxx

Thanks everyone - called for advice. Have to see a GP within 12 hours or go to A&E.
Feeling completely shit

You poor thing. My young teen daughter had very heavy bleeding recently and I ended up taking her to A&E. I would get medical attention sooner rather than later, for reassurance if nothing else. They could check your blood pressure & iron and prescribe medication to limit bleeding if required.

I had a similar thing. Although I think I lost a lot more blood as I had an ambulance due to blood pressure going through the floor and passing out. It turned out to be a polyp that caused it so I had it removed and had a coil fitted. Might be worth checking this out too in your case. It's very scary isn't it. I hope you get it sorted soon. Take care.

Hope you have ready been seen and all is ok.

I had this during the first lockdown (mine genuinely looked like a baby but I knew it wasn’t). I’ve been anaemic ever since. I didn’t seek medical advice but have since found out it was a decidual cast. I hope you’re ok.,

Hope you’ve been seen op, thinking of you x
