Good family games for NYE?

Anyone know any really fun games for NYE? Not really wanting board games as such, more card/dare/fun games. We had one years ago which had us all in fits laughing but none of us can remember the name of it or where it went. We're 3 adults a 17yo and a 9yo. 9yo would like to be involved but I'd like recommendations which might not suit her either. 17yo is almost 18 so I feel he's ok to play most things.

Small NYE due to various Covid cases so just want to make the most of it for us.

Have you played PIT? It's hilarious.

pisspants · 27/12/2021 23:49

the taskmaster game is really good for all ages, it's active, creative and fun

The 'who am i?'
post it note on your head (we played it christmas night) was easy and a laugh.

pisspants (or anyone else who has it) can you say more about the task master game? I saw it in shops but wasn't sure if it would just be a poor version of the TV show or genuinely a good game

SouthOfFrance · 28/12/2021 00:07

Balderdash, charades, cards against humanity

ponygirlcurtis · 28/12/2021 00:11

For something the 9yr-old could join in - Kids Against Maturity. It's a child friendly version of Cards Against Humanity, and it had us howling with laughter on Christmas Day.

Thanks for the suggestions I will look some of those up.

It's really annoying me that I can't remember the name of the one we had. DH thinks it was Ant and Dec's Saturday night takeaway but I don't think it was. I just remember having to 'teach a zumba class' and DH having to do head over heel rolls around the kitchen and the kids howling watching his attempts. So if that rings any bells that would be great lol.

Taskmaster was a hit here on Xmas day. It’s fun if you all join in. Example tasks, go to bed in the least number of steps, take 10 photos of you holding things going from large to small. Sounds very silly but it’s fun! We also played the kids version of Cards against humanity - which my dad who has dementia loved and won!

MeMumI · 28/12/2021 00:32

Definitely Taskmaster. We played it last year and were in stitches. Two teenagers in our house too.

pisspants · 28/12/2021 00:35

@SouthOfFrance the Taskmaster game is quite like the TV show, but it has different tasks for different rooms but is very accessible and requires nothing special other than pen and paper. You take it in turns to be the taskmaster (reading the challenges and judging). Everyone has a secret task to do whilst playing and everyone has to guess what it is and if ungeussed you get points. Eg) saying a word 3 times or pretending to answer 2 calls. Then the tasks are either timed or whoever does the most/lasts longest, eg) recreating a famous painting, hopping on one leg and saying boing, spinning round with something on your head. So long as you can read (so can read the tasks) you can play and it was a good laugh for 3 generations over xmas

Card game sussed (they're several different versions). Amazon sell it.

sabrinatheteenagemortal · 28/12/2021 00:55

Linkee is one of my favourites. They also have a kids version: dinkee!

Rizzoli123 · 28/12/2021 01:14

My kids love articulate. Dobble is also good. Card game where you have to find the matches on each card. You could do the big fat quiz of the year. Bit of language but you could watch before hand and copy out questions and do a family quiz. You could also add in family questions.

My son had the touch words game for Christmas and we could play for hours. You choose a catogry on the card such as colours and if you say blue you push the B, red push the r. It's against the buzzer. You can even make up your own catogries

SouthOfFrance · 28/12/2021 22:29

Thanks for the task master info, does sound good - I love a new board game so might have to buy it Grin

mamaduckbone · 28/12/2021 23:39

The taskmaster book is also good - there are loads of challenges so you can just pick and choose rather than playing it as a game. Dh loves being the taskmaster and making everyone else do ridiculous things.

TwoShades1 · 29/12/2021 07:28

Maybe check the Klem family on YouTube. They do a lot of simple but fun looking games.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 29/12/2021 07:33

spoons is a big favourite here. We've started playing with giant playing cards to shake it up a bit.

123ZYX · 29/12/2021 07:38

The Sock Game went down well with my family this year
