Party games / finishing touches

For the first time, we are having lovely friends and their kids to stay for New Years. 4 adults then DC 9, 7, 6 and 4 and I want to make it a really fun party with lots of games we can try to see which ones are the best fit for the range of ages.

Also going to have party hats, poppers, indoor sparklers and balloons.

So far I've got:

Hide and seek
Blind man's buff
Squeak piggy squeak
Roll dice chocolate game
Memory game on tray
Pin the carrot on a snowman
Hanging donuts eat with hands behind back
Flour with a sweet that you cut away then when it falls eat with hands behind back

What are your favourite family parlour games??

I think I'd set a room up for dancing for the kids. Organised games are great but can be tiring for all concerned and you're not going to want to spend the whole time playing with the kids. I'd choose a smaller room, put up some disco lights and speakers and that's their "disco". Kids will usually enjoy that, throw some balloons in there so they can throw them around etc.

And what are the adults doing?

I'm hoping that we'll all get stuck in to most of them adults and kids - that's why I'm looking for a long list so we can quickly move on to another one if it's not really working out! Kids don't really play together as the ages / sex split doesn't work that well and we don't get chance to get together that often so I'd like something to kick start the fun if it's not forthcoming naturally.

Adults sitting around talking is VERY boring if you're a kid Grin

Oooh I don't think I'd bank on all the adults playing game after game OP.

I can't imagine a worse NYE to be honest than being expected to play squeak piggy squeak or some memory game on a tray!

A few games early on...then leave the kids to run wild in their "disco room" if you have the means to set that up...also set up a craft table and let them make "New Year's Hats" with stickers and gems etc.

Another good thing is a treasure hunt but without clues. Just hide a load of sweets everywhere and before letting them loose, let them decorate New Year's Eve loot bags to put them in.

Set up an area for them to chill with a film if they get tired. Some will doze off maybe.

For the adults, if you want fun, have a Karaoke machine/funny grown up board games.

Don't expect your adult guests to play blind man's buff all night!
