Voice loss in dementia. Is this a thing?

DM has worsening dementia symptoms but sadly DF is in denial and refuses to acknowledge it or accept support or even discuss with us.
We’ve tried.

He won’t allow her to be seen by a GP (and she refuses) so we’re relying on Google alone and trying our best to support them both as much as they will allow us to.

Lately she has been completely “losing her voice “. She is very childlike in her manner and whispers “I’ve lost my voice “ having been speaking perfectly minutes before and no sign of a sore throat.

Either she’s using it as a way of disengaging (that’s fine) or unable to gather her thoughts so uses it as a way of excusing herself from having to speak or.. she has a physical (dementia related or something else?) cause.

It reappears to normal levels as quickly as it disappeared. No croakiness, just gone and back.

Any ideas? Anyone with experience of this? Google isn’t helping.
I’m trying to work out if this is related to a particular dementia related illness or whether it’s a choice she is making to not speak.

I just want to help my mum 😣
