Sweat rash under breast

Rubyupbeat · 27/12/2021 15:19

Hi there, I have an itchy sweat rash under one of my breasts, I've had it before, many years ago, I think it's similar to a yeast infection.
Please can I ask if I can buy a cream over counter? I am sure I did last time, maybe canestan?
I've tried googling, but keep getting athletes foot info, lol!

Yes, canesten is what you need.

AutumnAlmanack · 27/12/2021 15:22

Hi - I get this too - it's really annoying (and smelly!). The nurse at my GP practice recommended using mildly medicated talcum powder (Cuticura was the brand mentioned), or yes, athlete's foot cream (it is the same bacteria which causes both conditions).

Hope it gets better soon.

I second this. My mum has it really bad despite being very clean and it looks so sore. It really was horrendous last time she had it. She got medicated talc after it worked for her.

Definitely Canestan, it could be from not drying properly?

Chestnut23 · 27/12/2021 15:47

Ask for clotrimazole 1% (canesten is one brand but sometimes they stock others). Apply one week after the rash has gone to prevent it recurring

ibelieveinangels · 27/12/2021 16:09

mine went away the next day using sudocrem

SquigglePigs · 27/12/2021 16:17

Yes to clotrimozole/canestan. I used to get it quite often and then I started using a deodorant stick under mine and I haven't had the rash for months.

DartmoorChef · 27/12/2021 16:22

I get this as I'm rather large boobed and have a very physical hot job. I find smothering in sudocreme overnight fixes it instantly. Always make sure to dry properly after a bath or shower too. It can be so painful and I've occasionally had it when the skin has literally split open..

TowandaForever · 27/12/2021 16:58

Washed and dry a couple of times a day. Change bras frequently.

SpanielsAreMyLife · 27/12/2021 17:02

Canesten hydrocortisone from the pharmacy counter will sort it, used very very sparingly. Normal canesten doesn't touch it when I get it.

Touch wood, I've not used it for a while as I use Cuticura medicated talc every day and that keeps it under control. And well fitting wired bras so it doesn't get moist under the band.

Cucumberinginplease · 27/12/2021 17:56

Yes, clotrimazole is what you need.

For all of you who struggle with under boob (and tummy overhang and thigh chafe) I would advise getting a barrier cream.

The rash/skin breaks are caused by the sweat altering the pH of the skin and the skin then breaking down. Ideally removing the moisture is the plan but when you can't, protect and prevent using a barrier cream.

There are lots available from pharmacies/Amazon. A few brands are mediderma and cavilon.

Apply after showering in a thin layer and allow 30- 60 seconds to dry before popping on clothes. It will help protect and prevent.

Game changer. Honestly.

GoodnightGrandma · 27/12/2021 17:59

The liquid talc from Asda is brilliant at preventing this. I use it in the summer.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 27/12/2021 18:21

I use liquid talc everyday to stop my bra from rubbing. This has improved it massively. But I also put medicated talc on at night. And wash under there with w medicated bar of soap. After a year of horrible smells and rashes and sore bits this has made it better.

I also make sure I’m really dry under there after a shower. New bra everyday.

DerAlteMann · 27/12/2021 18:24

DW swears by washing with salt water (no soap) and then using canesten.

hairymuffet · 27/12/2021 19:18

Buy a diflucan tablet over the counter

Sunnysidegold · 27/12/2021 20:11

I've had this and it's so unpleasant. I use the cuticura powder every day but am now interested in the barrier creams mentioned. I too have had it split and needed a round of oral anti fungal tablets to fix it.

Rubyupbeat · 27/12/2021 20:16

Thank you so much for the replies. I shall try to find a pharmacy tomorrow for the canestan or equivalent and also the cuticura. When it is better I shall use sudocreme as a barrier.
Thanks again, it's so itch and sore.

I'd use sudocreme first or in conjunction with canestan.
