Christmas and cabin fever

So yesterday was boxing Day, just wanted to chill after a manic couple of weeks of lists wrapping, cooking, hostessing. OH has ants in his pants so set off on bike to get milk he decided we needed. DS 2 decided they needed a big gammon joint and they're reduced today so off he trots. Late yesterday evening DS turns up with his old friend unexpectedly for a catch up and a few beers, left at midnight. In every case the partners were happy to stay home and chill.

So OH and two of my sons had cabin fever yesterday, is this a common thing or is it just my lot who get ants in their pants

I get cabin fever at Xmas. Can't stand being cooped up with inlaws & get very tetchy!

So what do you do to scratch the itch?

Generally go for long walks to avoid them all!

I get this every year and this year am isolating so it’s worse than ever , am sat in the back garden freezing just for some fresh air 😂

XmasCrap · 27/12/2021 13:42

I've always been the same, even as a teen I hated being cooped with everyone.

I don't have to mine buggers off. This morning after walking the dog going out for bread he wanted to go out for lunch. Never mind I had cleaned through the dining room putting it straight, wrestled with all the cardboard removing plastic, cello tape Makijg it into a neat parcel so it's removed tomorrow by the council.

Done all the glass, plastic, tin, paper recycling and put it out. We have an overflowing fridge a DC working on finals and he wants lunch out now

I've hosted for last two days and my children have gone to their dads today so making the most of being home alone!

I did get cabin fever last Christmas though as my daughter had covid and the whole household had to isolate. Couldn't wait to take the dog for a really long walk on day 10. Generally though, getting out for a walk is my way to escape cabin fever.

I struggle with more than 36 hours in the house.
If I don't burn off enough energy frequently enough, I start waking in the night feeling very twitchy.

I don't think it's normal to be confined together, especially on a 4 day Xmas weekend.

I really dislike my in-laws; my MIL is such a martyr & puts DH on a pedestal which infuriates me, as he's far from perfect (like all of us Wink) but he's Golden Balls in her eyes. Hmm

Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it), we live close enough to not have to stay over, but there's an expectation we will spend around 12 hours a day in their company over the holidays!

It doesn't make for an enjoyable time for any of us.

I don't really get cabin fever, but it just the 3 of us, no in laws etc. My husband will go out for a few hours walking or whatever, I'll stay home, feed our son (13) do the washing and generally just enjoy the peace and quiet.

DH gets cabin fever and was very irritable yesterday (no time for a walk/cycle as we needed to go and visit his elderly dad an hour and a half away). He went for a 6 mile walk today and I enjoyed just chilling with some of the Christmas chocs. Both much happier today. Bedding for two lots of guests washed, kitchen tidied and casserole of excess carrots, parsnips and bacon simmering nicely. Both DS's in their own homes and a peaceful evening in front of the tv with a bottle of fizz left unopened from Christmas lunch ahead. Bliss!
