A remarkable person.

I ask myself who are the Desmond Tutu’s of the future. The world needs people like this…

Aah God bless him 🙏

I loved Desmond Tutu. He was such a straight arrow and a true humanitarian. He was the only African statesman that I recall who spoke out against Robert Mugabe's atrocities. It's an unpopular opinion but I think he was 10 times the man Nelson Mandela was. It's a sad day to lose such a great man.

I saw him when he came to England in about 1996.
Lovely chap. He made a point at one of the events of speaking to everyone.

It’s not a competition.

It's not a competition but it's my opinion. I think he's often overlooked in the apartheid struggle when he was a lone voice speaking out. A truly great man.

PermanentTemporary · 26/12/2021 11:44

An incredible positive force.

thegcatsmother · 26/12/2021 12:25

So sad, and he was such a force for good.

Gerwurtztraminer · 26/12/2021 12:54

He was a big name and a huge character. You only have to see the huge range of tributes to see how extraordinary he was. From the contribution he made to both bringing down apartheid and rebuilding after it, to supporting Palestinian rights and defending gay rights and speaking out against Mugabe and other human rights breaches whilst supporting assisted suicide. People like him don't come along very often.

A true angel.

I had a good cry when I heard the news and we quoted him and toasted his amazing life at lunch. We will not see his like again. A spiritual giant of a man and a true Christian.

“When the white man came to South Africa we had all the land, they had all the bibles. They said “Fall to your knees and pray to the Lord” When we got up they had all the land and we had all the bibles.”

PerkingFaintly · 26/12/2021 17:48

Was so sad to see this news.

Hambe kahle, archbishop.

Yes, this.
