Anyone care to help diagnose me? Feeling sick after eating fatty or creamy foods.

Feeling rubbish again. And I’ve only eaten a very normal amount of food today!

It’s anything fatty, greasy, oily, creamy or sugary. I can eat a bit just fine. But if I eat more than a bit I feel ill. Like that feeling you get if you’d eaten an entire cream cake after a carvery. Only I haven’t, I’ve just eaten normally. With maybe a bit more Brie and chocolate cake than a normal day. But only a bit!

It comes on in the evening/at night. I’m fine whilst I’m eating it, it’s later that I pay for it.

Gall bladder was scanned before covid and all fine. Another scan requested but not expecting anything again.

Any ideas please, gratefully received!!

Could be acid reflux. Have you tried gaviscon or similar?

Drunkpanda · 25/12/2021 20:28

My comment was going to be gallstones, but I see that's already been looked ar

StillNo · 25/12/2021 20:29

Thanks for the replies. Gaviscon helps to a point. GP has just prescribed Omeprazole so will see if that helps.

It could still be a gallbladder issue even if your scan didn't show any stones. I would ask for further investigations into your gallbladder function,

delilahbucket · 25/12/2021 20:51

Omeprazole can take ages to work so worth bearing in mind. I've been on it for just over seven weeks, two a day, and it's only the last week I've started to notice a real difference. I started with nausea too and then came the heartburn and severe stomach pains.

Gallstones or reflux.

But gallstones can cause reflux as they irritate.

I'm the same re too much dairy (since I had gastritis a decade ago suspected as gallstones). And I'm also wheat intolerant (separate issue).

I find gaviscon helps but certainly allowing myself cheese and cream etc at Christmas does ruin my digestion for about a week!

Had my gallbladder scanned on a Thursday evening, told it was clear, ended up in a+e the following Thursday, MRI on Friday and results showed gallbladder was chock-a-block full of stones. Had to wait another few weeks to get it out. Would have an attack if I ate anything greasy, fatty or creamy

sorrysaywhatnow · 25/12/2021 23:24

Ahhhh see now I automatically wanted to say gallstones. I'd get a second opinion/re-scan

Oh wow how scary for you. And very interesting that you still had them despite a clear scan. What were your symptoms please if you don’t mind me asking?

It might just be an age thing
Both me and DH tolerate fatty foods a lot less than we used to!

ChatterMonkey · 25/12/2021 23:35

I had this before. If I ate somethinf fatty or creamy it would make me vomit. Main time I can remember is having a carbonara in a restaurant, about 5 mins after eating, i as vomiting in the toilet.

Went to the gp.and they just said it was probanly a sensitivity to rich foods, that my body was rejecting. Go said wasnt neccessarily doing anything wrong, as the food that was being rejected was uneeded so I just had to eat healthier.

The sensitivity died down and i can eat normally now, but stil avoid overlly creamy foods just in case

Appalonia · 25/12/2021 23:36

Could it be a twisted bile duct? I have a friend who had something very similar to what you described. They're fine now, but it needed operating on. Good luck OP.

Graphista · 26/12/2021 01:09

Gall bladder disease presents differently to some degree in women

Did they also check the pancreas and the various ducts for smaller stones? Done a lipid profile?

Mum suffered for years until things got dangerous - persevere

Nutsabouttopic · 27/12/2021 19:44

If I ate anything greasy fatty or creamy I would get a pain just under my chest all around my body but it would get progressively worse on my right side under my ribs. Also very sharp pain either behind my right shoulder or between my shoulders. Pain would increase until I got strong pain relief in hospital. I had to have a very restricted diet until I got my gallbladder out. Apparently it is common for gallstones not to be picked up on a scan

What was the outcome OP? I'm struggling with this at the moment
