Why do you please wrapping until Xmas eve?

Genuine question, why do people leave the wrapping literally until Xmas eve? Now I don’t celebrate Xmas but I saw a lady with loads of rolls of wrapping paper today and it got me thinking. When you have a year to get organised why leave wrapping until the night before? Or is that sort of the tradition and the done thing on Xmas eve? Thanks and just to clarify I’m not being ignorant, it’s a genuine question x

The title should have read “LEAVE” instead of “PLEASE”

Too busy - been working 12 hour days all month and exhausted. Today we actually have time (our business is seasonal and Sept to Dec is busiest time). Just got it all done - no bother.

ReviewingTheSituation · 25/12/2021 00:08

Maybe she's bought paper reduced at the last minute, for next year.

I only wrapped last night - just no time before that.

I only finished work for Christmas today, so Havnt had time to wrap everything before today. Some people only get paid on a Friday, others struggle with hiding presents from kids (I find it easier when things are in Amazon boxes as the kids don’t question that!)

nancy75 · 25/12/2021 00:10

When Dd was little it was because I didn’t want her to accidentally see any of the presents before Father Christmas delivered them - much easier to hide if not in Xmas paper (also the paper rips) Now she’s older & they don’t have to be well hidden they’re wrapped earlier

User2638483 · 25/12/2021 00:11

I work well to a deadline

backtolifebacktoreality · 25/12/2021 00:12

Well I keep putting it off as life has been so busy. Once Christmas Eve comes you have no alternative but to just get on with it. Mind you, I didn't start buying my Christmas presents until about ten days ago (and I have lots to buy). Amazon Prime has been my friend this year!

BananaPant · 25/12/2021 00:12

We're wrapping now. Well, DH is as youngest DS keeps waking up, so I'm on watch to supervise he doesn't come downstairs.

Don't ask why we leave it till
the last minute . We do it every year and every year it pisses us off.

It's ridiculous and we only have ourselves to blame.

🙄

Redglitter · 25/12/2021 00:13

I hate wrapping presents so I put it off and put it off. Christmas Eve is the point I can't leave it any longer

bizboz · 25/12/2021 00:13

Ha, I barely managed to get all my presents, let alone have them all wrapped weeks in advance. I teach full time and term time is very full-on with work and the DC's activities so not much gets done before the holidays. I wrap in the evenings in the few days leading up to Christmas but there's always some left to do Christmas Eve.

bestdhever · 25/12/2021 00:16

Well OP my reasons were all of these
1.work
2.study
3.Exams
4.Being ill in the middle of it all...

Pick whatever reason you want...does it really matter? It's not like you were waiting for them to wrap yours!! 🙄

EarringsandLipstick · 25/12/2021 00:17

Thanks and just to clarify I’m not being ignorant, it’s a genuine question x

Could you really not fathom why people might wait?

I do mine once I finish work, which varies. This year I travelled to my mum's house on 23 December so wrapped today. Quite leisurely this afternoon. Of course any presents I'd to give other people outside my family eg colleagues were done as needed.

Wrapping ahead of time would have resulted in damaged wrapping trying to fit in the stuffed car.

I'm so busy that it is enormously challenging just to get all the shopping done. (Single parent, 3 DC, full time job)

Justleaveitblankthen · 25/12/2021 00:18

If they are anything like me it's because they keep adding more stocking fillers any time they nip out. A quick nip to Sainsbury's today saw me adding Thermal vests, socks, chocs etc Grin ( but I already have enough paper from previous years to wrap a small house or two )

fallfallfall · 25/12/2021 00:18

please for those who don't want to be doing this a g a i n next year.
hop down to the fabric shop asap and sew up some sacks. there are some really lovely fabrics and it's just straight lines. loads of advantages, one being that it's not noisy work stuffing them ;).

Five adults here atm and 4 of them are wrapping in different rooms! 🤣

HelloBunny · 25/12/2021 00:21

Easier to remember what’s what, when they’re not wrapped. Also, I might buy last minute gifts, and swap things around. Like DH / Dad / brother man stuff. And, if I think there’s too much for my kid. I’ll decide what to keep for his birthday.
I get out the Baileys & chocs, and enjoy it.

pluggee · 25/12/2021 00:22

I always have some wrapping to do on xmas eve, largely cause i'm still shopping/presents are still arriving.

FinallyHere · 25/12/2021 00:23

I love wrapping presents. My favourite Christmas Eve is to decorate the tree followed by wrapping presents with proper nine lessons and carols Christmas music in the background.

Almost my favourite part of Christmas.

Thesearmsofmine · 25/12/2021 00:23

I quite enjoy wrapping at the last minute. We stick on something festive and have a drink while we wrap, it’s part of Christmas Eve for me!

This.

HailAdrian · 25/12/2021 00:33

I'm incredibly disorganised despite my best efforts.

TheChosenTwo · 25/12/2021 00:36

Because I usually leave everything in it’s delivery box until I break up from school!
To be honest though I don’t leave ALL my wrapping until Christmas Eve, just the few bits that come in the last day or so, I’ve got a couple more things to wrap and then I’m done but I’ve had to stay up late because the youngest took ages to fall asleep so I can’t go in and do his stocking (probably can now I’m just scared Grin he’s bloody 10!)
Just having a late night last minute wander through the house marvelling at how festive and tidy and clean it looks and drinking it in as in about 12 hours time it will look like a riot has taken place here Grin

TheChosenTwo · 25/12/2021 00:36

Its Hmm not it’s.

PickAChew · 25/12/2021 00:40

I wa hoping to wrap last week but Ds2 ended up off school with a cough, that week. He's 15 and severely autistic so often stays up until gone midnight. Got a window on Thursday when he was obsessively throwing lego around his room to fish stuff out of its hiding places and wrap it.
