Things to do when turning 40

I turned 40 a week ago and wanted to draw up a bit of a bucket list to tick off.

I've led a lovely but pretty unadventurous life so looking for some ideas.

List so far includes

Sky dive
Learn to roller skate
Learn to play the piano
Climb a couple of Munros
Visit the Scottish islands

I'm married with young kids and a job so can't do anything too crazy but would love some other ideas!!

Learn to dance; samba, foxtrot, tap, ballet, whatever you fancy.

Learn French etc, there are plenty of resources both offline and online to help you get started.

Wild camping / swimming?

Travel somewhere adventurous alone. You could start with the Scottish Highlands. The Ise of Mull, for instance, is otherworldly. It’s very character building. My friends think I’m odd and “brave” for travelling alone but it’s one the best things. I love it.

I learned to scuba dive shortly after my 40th birthday.

It’s my 40th today. I was supposed to spend the last two years completing a 40 before 40 list but obviously covid put paid to most of them.
Some I did manage were
do a photography course,
Try 5 new cocktails
Read 5 classic books
Others were habit building “do X daily for 40 days” like writing

Thanks for the suggestions.

Love the idea of learning to dance!

Not fussed about learning a foreign language but maybe learning sign language would be more beneficial!

If you haven't yet - run a marathon. Or half marathon or 5 mile run or c25k. It's a great feeling to complete a run.

Love your idea of the munros. You could do the UK peaks: Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell. I've climbed all of these and loved every one of them.

Kayak down a river.

Save up for a long haul family trip. We took DC to Japan as our once in a lifetime family holiday. It was unbelievable. We all loved it so much.
