Help please! Slow cooker turkey crown: do I need liquid or not? Online recipes contradicting eachother!

BBC Good Food site (although their recipe is for a boneless crown) includes 200ml liquid but I've found a recipe on Slowcookerclub that doesn't have any (other than the butter under the skin).

Has anyone got a tried and tested recipe for a turkey crown in the slow cooker? There are a lot of recipes so its hard to know which will work and i havent used mine for whole joints of meat yet, inly sauce-based recipes.

Think I'd put some chopped root veg at the bottom. Plus herbs. Then put turkey in that then add the 200ml water (which is a tiny amount). That's what I'd do for a normal joint anyway, with maybe a stock cube as an addition. You've then got a head start on gravy

Ooh, I've got half a leg on lamb and a small beef joint. I hadn't thought of slow cooking them until I saw this post. Shall I? Will they be lovely and moist or should i roast in oven as normal?

Do you have any other way of cooking it? I've had great success with gammon and beef in the slow cooker but chicken goes a bit grey and slimy so I guess turkey will be similar.

No other way of cooking it as my main oven has packed up...yay perfect timingGrin.

That's not filling me with hope about having slimy turkey. Only other option is to cook it early and then it would have to be out for about an hour while the veg and potatoes get cooked.

Lukewarm turkey sounds like a nicer prospect than grey and slimy turkey. Wink

Any chance you could nip out and get an air fryer? I cook whole chicken in mine and it's juicy and delicious

If you are stuck with the slow cooker I would lay it on a good bed of veg as pp said above so it's not sitting in it's own juices and season it really well but not add water as the veg will cook and create steam. I think the secret is not cooking it for too long.

Cook it in your oven, cover with foil and a towel and it will stay warm and be easier to carve.

Brusca yes this is what I'm going to do. The gravy will warm it up and everything else will be piping hot so I don't think it will be too much of a problem. Cheers all.Smile
