I try my best to treat my children the same. But ds who's 14 seem to have more fun stuff then dd whos 11. Ds is very vocal with telling me what he wants so it was Easy to do . Whilst dd finds it harder to know what she wants.

Ds has laptop. Skate board new music keyboard with stand and chair. Then he has few pairs of jeans. A few novelty type things for his room. Few other bits which I can't remember.

Dd Has a laptop. Then make upset. Art case. Hair dryer mirror hooded blanket. I have bought her alot of clothes not name brands but it come to alot. But I just feel guilty because her brother has more fun stuff then she does .

Could you make a little voucher for an afternoon tea or cinema or something for the two of you once covid's calmed down a bit?

Lol at some weird posters asking if you're wealthy and doing shocked faces at a very average pile of presents.

OP - I'd probably just add another few bits to hers but really, it does look pretty equal to me

@Xmasballsup21 I think most of us have probably had last minute worries at some point. Fartybrainedhippos idea is a really nice one.

The most expensive thing I got was the laptops which start at 130 pounds. So maybe I did not spend loads . A skate board could be around 20.00. As I said above I'm the inly one who buys for them. No grand parents. No other family members buy at all. So yes I have bought them reasonable stuff.

As long as they’ve both got things they want and will like I’d just leave it . Our children are now adult and there has probably only been one or two occasions when they’ve had equal value presents .

Anordinarymum · 24/12/2021 01:49

Your children are different. Celebrate that. Don't look upon Christmas as some sort of competition for presents. I am sure they will be more than happy with what you have bought.
Do not worry about your daughter. I am sure she will 'hit' you in later years for items that are shocking in price :)

GlamorousHeifer · 24/12/2021 06:25

OP please don't start listing the value of your children's presents on here. It's full of competitive grinches that take huge joy telling you their children only have £20 spent on them at Christmas (but fail to mention they'll be going skiing in the new year fully kitted out in new gear purchased by granny and grandad Wink)
I do this every year, I panic one seems to have more than the other! There have been trips to the shops last thing on Christmas eve in years gone by for felt tips and colouring books to make it more 'even'.
They are old enough now that they should be fine, if you are really concerned get to a supermarket for some bits asap today Grin

Cattitudes · 24/12/2021 06:38

She might gain pleasure from knowing she has money in the bank so I wouldn't not give her money if you think you have spent different amounts. Having said that she might get pleasure from clothes and makeup whereas he likes music. That is fine too if the spend is fairly equal.

It seems people already think I have remortgaged the house to buy their gifts Grin. I refuse to go out today. I think I'm going to do the cinema idea. She really likes it when we have time together. Her eyes always light up and she looks really happy. So I will definitely do that I think.

@GrannytoaUnicorn I spent almost £1800 on my two kids. Has that just about finished you off? 😀

Antsgomarching · 24/12/2021 09:26

I would have a budget for each, and she gets the difference in spend in cash. Frankly it’s great if she has some left over, I’d open a savings account for her and she can collect up her cash until she wants something significant.

mumonthehill · 24/12/2021 09:38

At that age we would often say that one may get more than the other around main presents but then the next year it might be the others turn. This year ds14 has got a new bike which was expensive but ds21 has less in cash. Over the course of many Christmas’s it evens out. Stocking I try to make even but some years one wants or needs something more expensive than the other.
