Am I having too much Omega 6 from nuts?

Hello everyone. Not sure where to put this so thought Chat might be a good option.

Because of health issues I usually try to avoid white flour and go for low carb ones. So not the gluten free flour blends with high carb flours like rice, tapioca, potato etc but almond flour/ground almonds which is low carb. The only other low carb flours I can think of are other nut and seed flours, and coconut flour (the latter of which I sometimes use too but is trickier to work with). I do bake low carb desserts (sugar free) regularly so use almond flour a lot.

I also like having almonds or occasionally hazelnuts as a snack or with my fruit; I enjoy them and healthy fats help reduce how quickly the sugar from the fruit is absorbed.

I sometimes use nut butters like peanut butter or almond butter in low carb treats - usually just a tablespoon in a mug cake but also I use them less frequently in 'proper' desserts.

I know nuts are full of health benefits and healthy fats. But they're also high in Omega 6 fatty acids (except for walnuts) and I know that in high amounts Omega 6 is very inflammatory.
I'm not sure if the Omega 6 from things like nuts and seeds is as bad as the Omega 6 from highly processed vegetable oils.
But I don't want my intake to be too high and I'm wondering if it is - I haven't found information online on how much nut consumption is considered too much.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Thanks in advance!

Nuts do have very high omega 6, high polyunsaturated fats and are very hard to digest because of a high amount of anti nutrients especially phytates and lectins.

I also don’t know an acceptable amount but I think you prob shouldn’t be eating them everyday

@hamstersarse hmmm I do think it's probably fine to eat them everyday - they're usually recommended in healthy diets and have antioxidants and help regulate blood sugar and protect heart health. I think my concern is more the quantity because when using products like nut flours or nut butters it's easy to consume a huge amount of nuts without realising.

I think if you're concerned there are services where you can pay to have your omega 3 levels checked and I think this would show if they're too low in comparison to your omega 6 levels. Thriva is an online service that does it, maybe? I don't really know what I'm talking about btw Smile

@BocolateChiscuits thank you! I’ve checked out Thriva, not sure about how accurate it’s supposed to be, do you have any experience with it? But thanks for suggesting!
