Reassure me please! Will my turkey defrost in time?

I plan on cooking the turkey crown and ham tomorrow so I’ve taken them out of the freezer this morning and moved them into the fridge .. they will defrost won’t they?! They’re not huge, turkey is 2kg I think? The reason I’m nervous is I’ve often taken mince/chicken breasts out of the freezer and put into the fridge in the evening and next morning they’re still frozen 🤦‍♀️ I forgot to get a meat thermometer and I don’t have time now to go looking.

I would take it out of the fridge to speed up the defrost

Leave it out of the fridge and move to the fridge when it is mostly defrosted. You'll be all good then.

Actually read your post properly now and for that weight it'll be fine in the fridge I'd say

Unlikely if your fridge is cold enough. I would take them out of the fridge for a few hours then put back in the fridge to finish off defrosting.

Purplefrizz · 23/12/2021 13:34

I did think maybe I’d leave it in the fridge for the day and then take it out tonight? But the suggestions to do it the other way round might be better?

I always start things outside the fridge and then put them in for the end, in the thinking that if they'll still part frozen they're cold enough to be safe anyway, and once they start to approach defrosted the fridge stops them going too far and getting warm. Does that make any sense?

Mines the same weight, its on the counter in the kitchen. I'll move it to the fridge tonight if it's defrosting well.

That makes perfect sense thank you!

This is only my second time ever cooking a Christmas dinner and I’m no spring chicken Grin
