Fiesta EcoBoost 1.0 any experience?

Allthepickles · 22/12/2021 19:55

Needing a new car like yesterday, car prices are crazy just now!
Anyway having borrowed a fiesta 1.4 I love the way it handles and keeps up with traffic, (compared to my previous Micra 1.2 that panicked at the sight of an incline)
I’ve seen a Fiesta 1.25 2013 and a Fiesta 1.0T EcoBoost 2014
I believe the latter is meant to have better acceleration but I’m nervous about going to such a small engine, both are 7.5k 😮 and the cheapest I can find atm.
Anyone got one or had one?

Thanks

I have a fiesta 1.25 2011. I did have a 1.4 fiesta but haven’t noticed a difference.
I have no complaints and I do a lot of motorway driving.

Muffinbutton · 22/12/2021 20:00

Depends on the model. We've got a red edition fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost. I love it. Comfortable to drive and no problem with the acceleration, it feels sporty. I much prefer it to our previous Mini Cooper S.

The ecoboost had a terrible reputation for just overheating and melting.
They should have had a recall done which helps. But I’m not sure how they will do with more miles and age on them.

We have a Focus Ecoboost, I’d recommend Ecoboost, never had any problems with it and nicely powerful when it’s needed Smile

Mooserp · 22/12/2021 20:08

I have one and really like it. It doesn't feel like a small engine at all.

Blanketpolicy · 22/12/2021 20:08

Ds has just got a 1.0L fiesta Ecoboost 2014. I havent driven it yet but dh says it is nippy pulling away, but not much extra oomph it once it gets some speed up.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 22/12/2021 20:08

(I had a non-Ecoboost Fiesta and it was a lot on the sluggish side)

m00rfarm · 22/12/2021 20:09

My son has had a 1.0 fiesta 2015 ecoboost for 2 years and really likes it. It has been reliable, looks smart and he has literally driven from one end of the country to the other in it (football fan with away matches ...) and really economical.

Allthepickles · 22/12/2021 20:16

Sounding promising! The Micra I was driving was awful, for picking up speed and felt unsafe, would blow about in the wind too. The Fiesta feels much more solid and has some oompf behind it.
Both cars I’m considering are low road tax, the Eco is in a higher insurance bracket but reasonable 😊

I have the 1.0L ST line ecoboost and bloody love it!
Had a 1.4 corsa before that was absolutely gutless and pulled away sooooo slow. Can really tell the difference with this. Highly recommend x

I’ll look that up, thanks 😊 This one is 2014 with 40,000 miles on it

Early ones had terrible issues with coolant loss and lunching of engines. 7 years old is getting to the point where things may start going wrong and from a reliability point of view I’d go for a 1.25. Both seem pricey though, plenty of similar ones on Autotrader for £6.5k. Maybe also consider the Mazda 2 which is virtually the same car.

billyt · 22/12/2021 20:54

The eco boost had a pipe that melted not the engine Grin

The coolant pipe than ran across the top of the engine was made of a material that wasn't compatible with hot water. The recall should have made sure any have been replaced.

I found out the hard way. Car suddenly lost power then stopped. Meant an engine replacement, luckily Ford sorted for me.

Mine was the Focus 1.0(998cc) Zetec S. Brilliant car to drive, very nippy, comfortable. I'd still be driving it now but needed a newer car for work.

Yep, which caused a virtually instant loss of all coolant and by the time it became obvious there was an issue the engine was toast.

Toffeepenni · 22/12/2021 21:08

Mine also had to have its engine replaced.
I would stay clear of them.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 22/12/2021 21:18

We've a 2012 1.25 Fiesta. It's fab. I love the driving position in the Ford. We also have a Polo 1.2l which is just as nippy, but altering the seat from DH to me when I'm nearly a foot shorter is a right PITA.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 22/12/2021 21:32

I had a 16 reg 1.0 ecoboost and it was dreadful compared to the 1.6 I traded in for it.

If I was in the market for a small car now, Id go for Mazda 2 1.5l

Livelifeinthebuslane · 22/12/2021 21:42

I've got a 13 plate 1.0 Fiesta Ecoboost. I also love it, great acceleration, it was the most powerful Fiesta when I bought it. Though it's getting near cam belt change, which is much more complicated on the Ecoboost engines and costs around £1k.

cherrypiepie · 22/12/2021 22:01

Lots of the newer engines with smaller cc are 3 cylinders so the engines cc aren't comparable. I had an old fiesta 1.2l hired an ecoboost 1l was much nippier

Now my new Audi A3 is only 1.0l Much nippier than my old golf 1.4l

Alarmset · 22/12/2021 22:03

We almost didn't buy the 1 litre EcoBoost for the same reason l, but it's much quicker than our old 1.6 Qashqai. I have the same engine in a Puma too and it's allcceleration is good.

The early ones had problems but that's been resolved now.

DismantledKing · 22/12/2021 22:19

I had one of those. I loved it.

JerkintheMerkin · 22/12/2021 22:34

I love mine (13 plate). Very nippy around town car. Feels much sturdier on the motorway than the Peugeot 205 I used to own.

GTAlogic · 22/12/2021 22:43

We had one a few years ago and loved it. We called it our Red Rocket. Nippy, great for the stop-start traffic in town, comfortable to drive, easy to park, economical... I was gutted when the lease ended and we had to give it back!

Shade17 · 23/12/2021 21:20

Lots of the newer engines with smaller cc are 3 cylinders so the engines cc aren't comparable

Well that’s just nonsense. Capacity has never really been comparable anyway due to such large differences in power out between engines of similar capacity.
