Should I spend Christmas with close Covid contacts?

Was due to spend Christmas Day with my parents (me, DH and 2 DC). PIL also due to go (MIL is CV).

2 other family members who live about a 4 hour drive away traveled to my parents at the weekend to stay for xmas. On Monday evening, one of them had a positive LFT. Awaiting PCR results now. Mild symptoms of a cold only at this stage.

My 2 DC had spent the day with them all whilst we worked on Monday. They seem fine so far but haven't tested them. Parents and other family member all testing negative on LFT.

I spoke to my parents last night. Visiting family members have said they might drive home if PCR positive so Christmas day can continue as normal for everyone else (aware they shouldn't really be travelling) and feel bad about them feeling they should leave.

My parents are asking if we would then still go as planned. They will obviously have been close contacts for a number of days. They have said they will LFT daily.

I suspect MIL won't go as she's CV, which would leave PIL alone with no Christmas food etc.

We're due to see other family on boxing day and go on a UK based holiday on 27th.

WWYD?

Thank you, could I ask why?

I should add that I do have an opinion on what to do but struggle with self doubt and need some validation!

Do you plan to test your dc ?
I can test the older one (5). The other is much younger so doesn't need to according to the guidance. However I would be very transparent with anyone we are due to see about this so they can make an informed decision.
