Urgent - Travel help from Netherlands. Anyone there?

BrotherHelp · 21/12/2021 22:13

My brother is due to fly into England tomorrow morning from Amsterdam. He booked the wrong PCR test and it won’t be back in time. He spent last Christmas on his own and was hoping to get back tomorrow in order to have the 2 day PCR arrival test clear to spend Christmas with family.
Does he need a PCR or LFT to travel? We’ve found one LFT place but it doesn’t open in time for his flight. Looking at sites through google translate so want to make sure the information is correct if anyone can help. Or he’s going to have to wait and pay for a second flight and he’ll miss his booked PCR test here and Christmas as well.

Mine are flying via Amsterdam tomorrow and needed a PCR Flowers

Chatterboxy · 21/12/2021 22:29

Is there a testing facility at the airport he could use?

Go and ask on Head for points daily chat thread or ask on the BA thread which will have reasonable traffic

Needs to be a private test provider, even if lateral flow

Interestingly, the link above said airline might still let him fly Confused but he would face a 500 quid fine on arrival. If the maths works, you could do a normal lat home test on moral grounds, video it, fly then pay up on landing.

To England From the Netherlands follows U.K. rules not theirs. You need this link;
www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-to-england-from-another-country-during-coronavirus-covid-19?priority-taxon=774cee22-d896-44c1-a611-e3109cce8eae

LemonMuffins · 21/12/2021 22:39

reservations.testandfly.eu/en-US

This looks like an option, albeit €230 for the urgent test (90min results).

ParisNext · 21/12/2021 22:40

*obviously he’ll need his PLF but you can edit it if he’s due to be delayed. Just log back into it.

StucklnAChimneyCantGetOutOflt · 21/12/2021 22:40

So if the cost of a new flight/new PCRs/personal cost to a ruined Xmas exceeds 500 quid. But lat test beforehand not to be a dick.
Check the link above and with airline maybe so it is 500 not 10k

ImAnOmelette · 21/12/2021 22:41

To the U.K. he needs:

Type of test
The test must meet performance standards of ≥97% specificity, ≥80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml.
This could include tests such as:
• a nucleic acid test, including a PCR test
• a LAMP test
• an antigen test, such as an LFD (lateral flow device) test
You must check with your test provider that the test meets the standards. You may not be able to travel if it does not.
The test could be:
• a face-to-face or in-person test
• a self-administered test with video or photo verification

ImAnOmelette · 21/12/2021 22:42

What time is his flight?

My son is literally in the air now from there and he had to have booked appointment for it yesterday. Not sure whether PCR or lateral flow though. Can he change flights to have the booked appointment and you get some lateral flow tests in so he can be clear for xmas even if 2 day PCR not back? Quite frankly I'm sure they will be stopping them soon anyway, it's a ridiculous waste of money, doesn't mean anything, you could be positive 2 hours later!

Dutchlady · 21/12/2021 22:45

Hi! There is a testing facility near Schiphol who can do PCR test and get you the results within 30 minutes. It is expensive though.

StucklnAChimneyCantGetOutOflt · 21/12/2021 22:47

Passenger Locator form will need your pre-booked PCR details this end. No idea if they ask for the test centre that end but can ask my relatives if you like. Part of the link does mention self-administered as above but in the next breath also says private test provider.

ImAnOmelette · 21/12/2021 22:47

PCR costs more and takes longer. Aim for an antigen test. Especially if there's any chance he could have recently had COVID.

ImAnOmelette · 21/12/2021 22:49

6am tests at Schipol - reservations.testandfly.eu/nl-NL/arrivals-4?journey=antigeen

BrotherHelp · 21/12/2021 23:15

Thanks all, flying at 10:40 (hopefully)

When I got past the shouting and swearing managed to work out there were LFTs available at the airport from 4:30am. He’s already got the PCR this end in his passenger locator form. So hoping LFT will be enough to get him on the plane, unless his PCR actually has a quick turn around. It was mainly panic at the amount of money spent on testing each end lost, not being able to afford to come back when it’s all a bit shit.

Agree you’re far more likely to catch covid on the plane or in the airport, test negative on arrival then party it up and develop it on day 5 anyway! He’s got LFTs for here and there.

He’s been isolating for the past week to ensure he can get on the plane, will tell him to not have organic juice for breakfast either!

Germany to Netherlands to the UK
Late night flight

ImAnOmelette · 22/12/2021 07:48

England doesn't require a PCR.

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england

TWmover · 22/12/2021 08:10

You only need a private LFT to enter UK (I just did) then your Day 2 PCR so he should be fine. Hooe you have a good Christmas together

StucklnAChimneyCantGetOutOflt · 23/12/2021 23:02

Did he make it OP? Hope so.
Mine made it but we are still waiting for the PCR results.
Hopefully will have them by morning or the robbie-dogs charging same-day extortion rates need to refund Xmas Wink Happy Xmas to you and yours x

BrotherHelp · 23/12/2021 23:45

Merry Christmas to you too. Yes he made the LFT at the airport, his PCR still hasn’t come back from 2days ago but he did one on arrival so we’re hoping it comes back negative tomorrow in time for Christmas Day
