Will you be out and about after Christmas? (Lockdown withstanding!)

Gocatgo · 21/12/2021 13:21

I’m laying low with the children this week. They have cold but a negative PCR. I’ve seen friends on Saturday but not since. DH unfortunately is still at work.
We are hosting Christmas for my family and then going to DH’s brothers house on Boxing Day. I’m really trying to stay safe before that. However, i’m happy to attend events after this. I have a girls lunch booked and panto on 30th.

Am I being daft or are others doing similar?

Will be back at work!

IncessantNameChanger · 21/12/2021 13:31

I'm going to do everything I can while I can in case we lockdown ( unlikely) after Christmas. I dont have a large close family so not a major hardship if I get covid from a isolation point if view.

If I had a big family gathering I might feel differently. I have seen my sister this week but supposed to be having nibbles at house after Christmas. Not seen my mum yet but we arent super close and she isnt keen on seeing the kids since the pandemic started. So overall I want to enjoy the moments I do have

icedcoffees · 21/12/2021 13:40

I'm living my life as normal.

Obviously if things close that's different but until then I have no plans to change how I live my daily life.

We've done this for nearly two years now - I'm not prepared to do it forever. DH and I are currently on our way back from shopping and lunch in town - everywhere was busy and everyone seemed to be having an absolutely lovely time.

Contrary to what everyone on MN seems to be doing, around here, everyone is living their lives as normal. The only difference compared to a usual year is masks.

mindutopia · 21/12/2021 13:44

Yes, we've all just had/been exposed to COVID (dh/dd both positive, ds and I stayed negative despite regular close contact for 2 weeks), so just finished self-isolation.

I can't really think of much we would actually want to do between Christmas and NYE as I'm exhausted after running around after everyone with COVID and two kids home self-isolating, and we are trying to save money (house move in new year), but I wouldn't necessarily be put off doing something.

Dh and dd both still sound awful though, so infectious or not, I probably wouldn't want us to go anywhere busy if they are coughing their heads off. I'd enjoy lunch out though, maybe even a cinema trip.

Sunsetsupernova · 21/12/2021 13:46

We’ve done similar. Cancelled our plans last weekend because of the risk of catching it pre Christmas but then we will be seeing friends and family from Christmas Day until New Years Eve when I’m really really hoping we’ll get to go away.
Secretly I’ll be gutted if our New Years plans are cancelled due to a lockdown as that’s the thing I’ve been looking forward to most all Christmas

MissyB1 · 21/12/2021 13:49

Laying low here. Hoping to go to our double vaxxed and boosted friends house for New Years Day. Other than that no other real plans. Would like to take ds to a new burger restaurant in town before he goes back to school though.

trumpisagit · 21/12/2021 13:49

We were planning a quiet few days before Xmas, but I currently have 3 visiting teenage boys in the house, and I can't begrudge my children socialising while they can.
I have also booked the cinema for Xmas Eve as DS2 really wants to see Spiderman and I am worried it might not be an option after Xmas.
DH is at work anyway so our Covid risk isn't that low...

DockOTheBay · 21/12/2021 13:54

My daughter has just finished her first term of reception. She is absolutely knackered so we aren't doing much this week. We went to the park this morning and it was a disaster - so we aren't planning much before Christmas but not because of Covid.
After Christmas we will be seeing plenty of people and back to business as usual (hopefully!)

DrunkenKoala · 21/12/2021 14:45

Yes.
Ds currently has covid, his isolation ends on the 27th. The rest of us have managed to stay negative (fingers crossed it stays that way). Therefore we are not doing anything indoors this week (except any last minute food shopping).
Next week DD and I are going to the panto and ice-skating, DP and DS are going to watch two football matches and are using public transport (through London) to get there. We also have loose plans to meet up with friends at a castle that’s got a big outdoor funfair so we’ll be outside but I think it’ll still be busy.
Also got my booster next week.

ScottishAngryBird · 21/12/2021 14:49

I’m living my life as normal and I’m self employed so I want to earn and then save more just incase more variants pop up. I’ve had enough of all this, I don’t mind wearing my mask and socially distancing but I can see many riots happening if we do lockdown again.

megletthesecond · 21/12/2021 14:55

No. I'll go running and get takeaway drinks and food but won't be going in anywhere. I've got my booster next week and want the kids back at school in January.

Gocatgo · 21/12/2021 14:55

Interesting point about people being out and about @DrunkenKoala. Various media outlets will have you believe everything is dead out there. I think things will perk up after Christmas. In my opinion, people just want to ‘protect’ Christmas and then have some fun.

I'm carrying on as normal for as long as possible because I think we soon won't be able to.

However, I'd he sadder to miss the run up to Christmas than I would the day itself.

Friends seem to bpe protecting Christmas Day, which is rather annoying because no one wants to go anywhere Grin

Lottapianos · 21/12/2021 15:03

Haven't booked anything yet but looking forward to an evening at the pub, meeting a friend for lunch, and going out for a nice NYE dinner. We're fully vaxxed and boostered and I wear a mask when I am supposed to. Other than that, life has to go on

Ghostlyglow · 21/12/2021 15:04

I've tested positive and have to isolate until after Christmas, so I would like to be. I suspect we'll be in lockdown though.

MarshaBradyo · 21/12/2021 15:04

Still doing stuff now and will after.

icedcoffees · 21/12/2021 15:19

It's definitely not dead where I am - cafés and restaurants are full, shops are busy, car parks full or close to it. Everyone appears to be going about their lives as normal (apart from masks where necessary, of course) - and tbh, it's really, really nice to see.

DH and I were out shopping today and we both said how normal everything felt.

Gocatgo · 21/12/2021 18:04

Tonight’s announcement makes me think that we’ll get a few days after Christmas at least 🤞

OP posts:
MissyB1 · 21/12/2021 18:06

As long as we are allowed to mix two households 🤞 I desperately want to go and see our good friends for New Year.

SommerTen · 21/12/2021 19:07

I will be working as usual (in a hospital).. hopefully still be able to meet up with friends & family after Christmas etc, I can't cope with lockdowns they're so boring and soul destroying especially in winter.

edwinbear · 21/12/2021 19:09

3 out of 4 of us currently positive so isolating over Christmas. We’ll all be able to go out on 27th Dec so yes, we’ll definitely be going out and doing the fun stuff we haven’t been able to do before Christmas.

AuntieMarys · 21/12/2021 19:13

Going to cinema tomorrow, lunch Thursday and a gig, lunch Xmas Eve, eating out Xmas day. We haven't stopped going out nor do we intend to as long as we can

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2021 19:24

We are booked to go to Butlins on the 27th travelling by train, we will absolutely be going if it's open.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2021 19:26

We're carrying on as normal now as well, I'm out for a meal with friends tomorrow night, light show on Thursday and panto on Christmas eve.

Gocatgo · 21/12/2021 21:47

I really admire the ones still keeping going.
I can’t face being the one who ruins the big family Christmas that everyone wants so much.
Flowers to those still at work. DH is miserable and worried he will catch it.

Hope everyone has a lovely, lovely time!
