Moving from EE to giffgaff, please can someone give me advice!

Sorry about the really boring thread topic but I am so confused! I have been with EE for over 10 years, every 2 years I renew my contract and get a new phone. However, times are harder and I cannot justify the ridiculous £52 a month I have been paying for my current contract. It's a silly amount of money. However, before I had a contract phone I was on pay as you go so switching is all new to me. I want to keep my number.

My contract ran out on the 16th and I know it goes to a rolling contract until I cancel. I have ordered a giffgaff sim and have unlocked my phone through EE's website.I have the PAC code ready to go once the sim arrives. I have checked on U Switch and it talks about how the regulators have made it easier to switch to a new network without getting the hardsell treatment. So once I have the new sim and put it in my phone, transfer the number over etc, is that it? Or do I still have to contact EE even though I am now out of the contract?

Thanks so much if you read that boring info but I am very confused and don't want to get stung by another bill from EE.

Thanks

Will you not have to contact EE to cancel the contract?

Danikm151 · 20/12/2021 21:06

You have to formally tell them you are ending the contract otherwise they will continue to charge you, will be pretty straightforward after that

Or does using the PAC code do that?

As soon as you use your pac and port out it cancels the contract with EE. They then issue a final bill and as you pay in advance if you are out of commitment you will receive a pro rata refund

This is what I was thinking from what USwitch said, it didn’t say anywhere about contacting my previous network and just talked about how easy it is to switch thanks for regulators. Thank you!
