Ocado Christmas delivery slots - what a waste of time and money!

Why do they offer Christmas delivery slots if they don't have the stock to fulfil them? I had to pay £8 for a slot (in the late evening). Booked one thinking it would save me from going into the shop. Finalised the order on Friday and they are so low on stock there's little choice in any category and some items are completely out of stock (puff pastry, frozen desserts...). Ended up having to go into our local Sainsbury's anyway and it couldn't have been more different: fully stocked shelves, loads of choice, interesting options.

I called Ocado about it and the guy apologised but said he wasn't allowed to refund the delivery fee or offer vouchers to cover the cost.
Happy Christmas to you too Ocado!

Are they all this crap? I don't think I've ever had it before that there's little choice and you're supposed to cheerily hand over your £8 and be glad that you got anything at all.

Got offered a last minute slot last week with free delivery (£10 off voucher)

Butter substituted for butter and 1 missing item but the rest is all coming.

The Black Forest gateau is so squashed that most of the cream is stuck to the packaging and it looks like half a gateau...I've requested a refund.

I'm not looking forward to rooting through the bags to return things!

They still deliver in bags?!

To be fair you sound pretty high maintenance. I wouldn’t describe substituting crumpets for other crumpets as a useless substitution. At least you still have something for breakfast.

This. You don't reserve the items when you put them on your order. You are just reserving the delivery slot. They can't reserve each item because they just get them from the store

Not true for Ocado as there is no supermarket to pick from. It comes from a fulfilment centre so there really is no excuse for poor stock management.

For other supermarkets it can depend where you live. For example Waitrose use a fulfilment centre for parts of SW London. So those orders don’t come from a store.
