Should I just go out for the day on my own?

There's an exhibition that I wanted to see months ago but no one else in the family fancy's it. The friend I would normally turn to has a bad hip and can't walk.
If I just clear off for a day between Christmas and New Year, head into the city, have lunch on my own and go to the exhibition would that be weird?

Not weird sounds like a great day! I've done this in loads of cities including st Petersburg in Russia! Always have an interesting time. Enjoy. Smile

Sounds like a fab day out! Go for it and enjoy! Smile

I would definitely do this and plan on doing this.

@BarbaraofSeville

It's weird that you think it's weird.
This.

Don’t miss out on life because you’re afraid to be on your own!

My idea of heaven, I used to do this regularly on annual leave pre-Covid. Looking forward to getting back to it next spring/summer. You don't really need to talk to at an exhibition, do you?

I find it really odd when people don't do things by themselves. No-one else is interested in all the things I'm interested in, and I need time on my own to stay sane.

This is my favourite thing to do! Definitely do it. Nothing better than a leisurely look round an exhibition concentrating on the things that interest you most followed by a delicious lunch.

I also often go to see films by myself as my weird taste isn't shared by many so if no one else fancies it I have a lovely afternoon to myself.

Just think of it as quality time with someone you have loads in common with! Grin

CrimbleCrumble1 · 20/12/2021 16:44

OnGoldenPond I also go to the cinema on my own about once a month. I find there’s no pressure wondering if another person is enjoying the film. I often get a McDonald’s wrap after, it’s my little secret (well apart from telling you all).

Not weird at all! I prefer going to exhibitions and bookshops alone as they take me a long time and very few people have the patience to wait for me.
When friends suggest doing something like that together I try to get there early so I've seen some of what I want to look at in peace.

NoNameHere12 · 20/12/2021 16:56

It’s weird you would consider not going because you will be by yourself, when sometimes, being by yourself is the absolute best bit!!

Helpstopthepain · 20/12/2021 17:15

I much prefer exhibitions on my own because I don’t have to worry about anyone but me.

Bouledeneige · 21/12/2021 10:27

Why wouldn't you? I do it all the time. But then I also go on holiday on my own. If I want to do something I do it.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 21/12/2021 10:33

Do it!

I only started doing stuff like this happily by myself after having DD a s tbh it's lovely to have the headspace and quiet time to myself.

You'll have a lovely time I bet.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 21/12/2021 13:39

What exhibition is it? Is it the van gogh?

It sounds wonderful. I'm wondering about doing the same tomorrow. Just a little bit hesitant about a trip into London so close to Christmas
