To buy a new Kitchenaid to match my new kitchen

I've had a black Kitchenaid stand mixer for years. I must admit, I don't use it much but it's a thing of beauty and I love the look of it. My new kitchen is being fitted, the units are gloss white, wood worktops and green tiling. I've bought a green kettle and toaster. Can I justify the cost of a green Kitchenaid? I can afford it, it's just I'm dithering with guilt feelings.....

If you can afford it, go for it! Smile

I can’t afford one but I’m always on the lookout for a 2nd hand one- if you sell it can you send me the link please

Go for it! I’d buy your secondhand one in a flash

If you can afford it then order it Stephens day in the sales and put the old one up for sale as an auction, money raised to go to the charity of your choice.
That will remove the guilt and you'll have a lovely co-ordinated kitchen. Win-win!

I would do it and then all my family would moan at me…! But I’d still do it!

Unless you can comfortably afford it and sell on your current one then no. There are far too many people feeling everything has to be match, be the latest thing etc; don't fall for it.

Tbh I think it’ll look better with the black one. All matchy matchy can look very contrived and therefore, far less stylish. Only my opinion, of course, but if you hardly use your other one it seems a bit pointless to buy another one that you’ll hardly use.

Unless you want to send me your old one! Xmas Grin

But if it will truly make you happy and if you can easily afford it then of course you can buy one. Is there someone you could gift the other one to for Christmas, who might really love it? That would mean you don’t have to feel guilty...

I wonder if you could get a car body place to give it a respray.

(Sorry, I watch too many 'find it, fix it, flog it' programmes Grin

Oh yes there are people who spray paint artwork onto kitchenaids! You could get a bespoke paint job done...

(I have watched a lot of Pioneer Woman Xmas Smile )

No. We all need to stop buying new stuff.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 20/12/2021 15:25

Seems a bit wasteful to me to replace an expensive thing you don't use much with another expensive thing you won't use much. And I have bit of an aversion to matchy matchy too.

You'll sell the old one easily enough though.

thevassal · 20/12/2021 15:35

Seems completely mad (and wasteful) to me to buy a second version of something you already don't use very much. I'd put the black one in a cupboard if you don't feel it matches your new decorations. Actually I wouldnt have bought one in the first place 🙃

But if you want it and can afford it I wouldn't feel guilty - we are all different and value different things, and you're putting money into the economy!
