Can anyone help with vitamin d recommendation?

I recently had a blood test and my vitamin D level was 31.
I already take a multivitamin (wellwoman) which has 10ug.

My doctor didn’t recommend anything, I just received a letter from the nurse saying I need to take an extra supplement. So what amount of vitamin D should I take alongside my multivitamin? If anyone could help I’d be most appreciative!

You can take up to 100ug/4000IU per day

sandybeaches74 · 20/12/2021 13:48

Yes 4000iu's is what I take but make sure you also take a K2 supplement with the D3

TooWicked · 20/12/2021 13:49

I use the Better You vitamin D spray, and I use double the recommended dose

I take 4000iu+ a day especially at this time of year. The best type of Vit D to get the ones that are suspended in oil because it is a fat soluble vitamin. Pharma Nord is a very good brand. You can buy them on amazon.

Also as @sandybeaches74 has said it is best to take with Vit K2 because it helps with the absorption.

lobsterkiller · 20/12/2021 13:57

I use the Better You spray too, I take 3000iu per day.

NannyGythaOgg · 20/12/2021 15:12

I take 4000iu per day in summer and 8000 per day in winter. I have an absorption problem though.

In your place I would take 8000 per day for 4 months to get your level up and then continue with 4000 a day until you et your levels rechecked.

The Better You spray is good for quick absorption or I take amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07JCXK3HP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 these]]
and K2 mark 7, to aid absorption. Ideally these should also be in gel capsules but these are too expensive for me so I buy the tablets.

Oh thank you all, I really appreciate it!

I was just about to order a 1000iu so I’m glad I checked back on this thread before I did!

I’m utterly useless when it comes to supplements, hence just sticking to a multivitamin. Is there no danger of taking too much? How would I know if I was overdoing it?
I doubt my drs would blood test again to check, they only did it in the first place because my hair was falling out 🙈

Another vote for Better You spray. I get it at Holland and Barrett (especially when they have an offer on).

MrOctopus · 20/12/2021 15:27

This is very cheeky but would anyone mind checking the Superdrug website and picking out which one I should try?

If you do a spray a day you won’t be overdoing it. It’s pretty hard to OD on Vit D unless you go completely OTT with it.

MrOctopus · 20/12/2021 15:28

Oh, I never thought of Holland & Barrett, I’ll check them. I’m just doing a Superdrug order and thought I’d chuck some on

You can order a vitamin D test to do at home here

My GP was an absolute waste of time re Vitamin D levels, so I spoke to a private GP re what supplements and how much to take and got a test after a few months to check my levels.

MrOctopus · 20/12/2021 15:49

Wonderful, that’s very handy to know, thanks @TooWicked

The dminder app is also good for keeping track of vitamin d intake, and recommended levels etc. (It’s free).
